Agli Ospedali Riuniti di Bergamo, verso le ore 17.00 dell’8.2.2001, è morto Fr. Alessandro Tasca. Il decesso è avvenuto a seguito di una grave emorragia cerebrale che lo aveva colpito sabato 3.2.2001 mentre si trovava in famiglia per una breve visita alla mamma. Ricoverato in un primo momento al Policlinico di Zingonia (BG), era stato successivamente trasferito ai Riuniti di Bergamo dove, il lunedì seguente, era stato sottoposto a intervento chirurgico che, purtroppo, non ha dato i risultati sperati.
Fr. Sandro aveva 58 anni compiuti, essendo nato a Brembate Sotto (BG) il 20.09.1942.
Quella di Fr. Sandro è stata, agli inizi, una vita in salita. Rimase orfano a neppure due anni, poiché il papà morì nel bombardamento di Dalmine del 1944; crebbe in casa di uno zio che gli voleva bene, ma lontano dalla mamma che riusciva a vederlo solo la sera, quando tornava dal lavoro: fu un ragazzo particolarmente timido e con poca fiducia in se stesso. Dopo le elementari seguì, nell’Istituto Tecnico Esperia di Bergamo, i corsi di Disegnatore e Aggiustatore meccanico. Frequentava intanto l’Oratorio parrocchiale ed era iscritto all’Azione Cattolica. E proprio in questo ambiente spiritualmente vivo e vitale è sbocciata la sua vocazione: con i Saveriani non c’erano stati particolari contatti; furono scelti “perché avevano una sezione per Vocazioni tardive” (Don Gianluca Rota, Informazioni per l’Ammissione, 12.9.1964).
Entrato a Desio nell’ottobre 1964, frequentò le medie e le superiori secondo una programmazione delle materie predisposta per le vocazioni adulte. Fu quindi a Nizza Monferrato (AT) per l’anno di Noviziato. Emise la Prima Professione, come Fratello Coadiutore, il 12 settembre 1969. Passò infine a Piacenza per i tre anni di formazione religiosa e professionale previsti nell’allora vigente curriculum formativo dei Fratelli. Stimato e apprezzato dai compagni e dai Superiori per le sue indubbie capacità nel lavoro, “nel settore del lavoro fa le cose sul serio e dà pieno affidamento” (Presentazione alla Professione, 18.8.1969), ma anche sempre alle prese con la innata timidezza nel travagliato impegno di realizzare relazioni positive e serene con gli altri.
Nel 1972 fu destinato alla missione del Bangladesh. Studiò l’inglese a Glasgow (72-73) e poi il bengalese a Barisal (73-74). Fu quindi assegnato alla scuola Tecnica di Khulna, la Boyra Technical School: vi lavorò fino al 1992, dapprima come Assistente, successivamente, come Insegnante, Direttore e, dopo un anno di aggiornamento, ancora come Insegnante e Vice Direttore: “ … anche se con vari sbagli, credo di avere fatto anche tanto del bene. Non mi sembra di aver gettato via la mia vita passata, anzi mi sento orgoglioso, pur cosciente … che non tutto è andato come speravo” (Lett. 9.3.2000).
Trascorse quindi due anni e mezzo tra i Mandi nel villaggio di Noluakuri. Si trovò veramente bene con la gente: “… Questo periodo trascorso nel villaggio è stato per me una nuova e bella esperienza, ma ho dovuto lasciare… non volevo essere d’intralcio al lavoro di P. Tonino… quale sia la via giusta, il metodo di lavoro in quel villaggio, [sono ancora] un grosso punto di domanda… Io ho cercato di fare il mio lavoro il meglio possibile” (Lett. 12.2.1994).
Nel 1994 fu richiamato in Italia per il servizio di incaricato del magazzino e delle spedizioni della Procura di Parma: un incarico delicato e di rilevante importanza per le missioni, svolto da Fr. Sandro con grande competenza e responsabilità.
Il Signore accolga nel suo Regno questo suo servo che ha speso la sua vita “a totale servizio per i poveri” (Domanda per la Professione Perpetua, 10.10.1980).

At about 5:00pm of Feb. 8 2001, Brother Alessandro Tasca died at the hospital in Bergamo. The cause of his death was a serious cerebral hemorrhage, which he suffered on Saturday Feb. 3 while he was visiting his mother and family. He was admitted first at the Policlinico of Zingonia (Bergamo), and then transferred to the Ospedali Riuniti of Bergamo: he underwent surgery, which unfortunately was not successful.
Brother Sandro was 58 years old; he was born in Brembate Sotto (BG) on Sept. 20, 1942.
The life of Brother Sandro was a difficult one, since its beginnings. He was orphan of father at two years old, when his dad died in the bombing of Dalmine in 1944, and was raised by a loving uncle, while his mother used to visit with him only late in the evening, after work. He was a shy boy, with low self-esteem. After grade school, he frequented the Esperia Technical Institute of Bergamo, with courses in Drawings and Mechanics. In the meantime, he frequented the Catholic Action group of his parish. His vocation grew from this lively and spiritual environment; there were no official contacts with the Xaverians, but they were chosen, as Don Gianluca Rota wrote in the admission letter because the Xaverians had a particular formation for second-career vocations.
Brother Sandro entered in Desio in October 1964 to continue his studies according to the program scheduled for delayed vocations. He then went on to Nizza Monferrato (AT) for the Novitiate, and at the end of that year, he made his First Profession on Sept. 12, 1969. He finally went to Piacenza for three years of religious and professional formation as required for candidates of brotherhood. He was appreciated and esteemed by classmates and Superiors for his skillful abilities at different jobs; "He is truly dedicated to the work, and he inspires total confidence" (Presentation to Profession on Aug. 18, 1969), even though his persistence shyness gave him some difficulties in establishing positive and serene relationships with the confreres.
In 1972 he was assigned to Bangladesh. He spent one year learning English in Glasgow (1972-73), and then another in Barisal for the study of Bengoli (1973-74). He was then assigned to the Boyra Technical school of Khulna, where he worked until 1992, first as an assistant, then as a Teacher, Director, and Vice-Director, following a year of aggiornamento: "Even though I made many mistakes, I believe that I did lots of good. I donít believe I wasted my life doing this; in fact Iím proud of that, even though not everything turned out to be what I expected" (Letter of March 9 2000).
He then moved on to the village of Noluakuri among the Mandi, where he worked for two years and a half with the people: "This period spent in the village was for me a new and beautiful experience, but I had to leave, to give space to Fr. Tonino. I really don't know which is the right way to work in that village; I still question the methods. I tried to do my best!" (Letter of Feb. 12, 1994).
In 1994 Brother Sandro was recalled to Italy for an important responsibility: he was put in charge of the mission warehouse at the Procure of Parma, an important link for the missions which requires mach tact and ability. Brother Sandro accomplished all that with knowledge and responsibility.
May the Lord welcome into his Kingdom this servant of His who spent his entire life ìat the service of the poorî (Request for the Perpetual Profession, on Oct. 10, 1980).
