Il 9.3.2006, alle 05.00, nella sua stanza al quarto piano della Casa Madre, sotto lo sguardo della sua Madonna, Ë morto Fr. Ivo Consigli. Aveva 84 anni, essendo nato a Berceto (Parma, Italia) il 10.3.1922. Dopo le elementari Fr. Ivo aiutò il padre nel lavoro dei campi.
A vent'anni, dal gennaio '42 - era in atto la seconda guerra mondiale - prestò servizio militare a Brunico e poi a Marsala; dal luglio '43 al dicembre '45, infine, fu prigioniero degli anglo-americani in Tunisia e in Marocco.
Entrato tra i Saveriani a Grumone (24.10.1946), dopo un corso intensivo di un anno per le materie delle medie inferiori, frequentò regolarmente le due classi del ginnasio. Fece quindi il Noviziato (1949-50) a S. Pietro in Vincoli.
CosÏ fu presentato per la Prima Professione: "Pietà: ottima. Carattere: Buono e mite. Delicato di coscienza, fin quasi allo scrupolo. Pieno di zelo e di sante industrie per fare del bene. Forse manca di equilibrio. Ma si può giustamente parlare di 'equilibrio' nel caso di un'anima totalitariamente generosa con Dio? Ö Solo la carità verso gli altri da lume alla sua obbedienza veramente cieca" (15.8.1950).
Delicatezza e generosità risaltano anche nella sua domanda di ammissione alla "Professione Religiosa in ordine al Sacerdozio": ´Il legame che intendo unire alla mia esistenza è sincero legame d'amore con quest'umile, piccola Congregazione, e questo sposalizio che io desidero dal più profondo del mio animo lo considererò come un'eterna consacrazione d'amore. Tutte le mie povere forze unite alla grazia di Dio avranno questo unico fine: santificarmi in Essa per poter santificare" (14.8.1950).
Dopo la professione proseguì l'iter formativo con il Liceo a Desio (50-53), il prefettato a Parma (53-54) e gli studi teologici a Piacenza (54-56). Purtroppo durante il secondo anno di teologia comparve un esaurimento nervoso depressivo che lo accompagnò con alterne vicende per tutta la vita e che gli chiuse l'accesso al Presbiterato.
Alle sue accorate e iterate richieste di essere ordinato presbitero, le risposte dei Superiori Generali furono, necessariamente, come la prima, umanissima, di P. Castelli: ´Dio solo sa se ti vorrei vedere Sacerdote; come sarebbe per te il giorno più bello, così sarebbe per me una delle soddisfazioni maggiori; ma c'è di mezzo la questione della salute e fino a quando non avremo una prova sicura della tua guarigione, non è possibile pensare al Sacerdozio" (11.1.61).
Dal 1957 al 1972 fece parte della comunità di Brescia, alternando periodi di cura presso i Fatebenefratelli e il servizio alla casa: ´in questi anni mi sono assoggettato a tutti i lavori, anche i più umili, pur di essere di aiuto alla Casa e alla urgente causa missionariaª (21.6.67).
Nel 1972, poichè sembrava alquanto ristabilito, fu destinato all'Amazzonia. Vi lavorò per cinque anni, tra i meno fortunati delle 'baixadas' di Belem, grato ai Superiori per avergli dato "la grande grazia di venire in missione" (30.12.73).
Nel 1978 rientrò in Italia, a S. Pietro in Vincoli. Fu addetto alla casa e alla diffusione di materiale missionario; impegnato a diffondere la devozione del rosario nelle parrocchie e nelle famiglie. Continuò queste attività, e finchè la salute glielo consentÏ, a Parma dove venne trasferito nel 1988.
Negli ultimi anni ´"a vissuto lo spogliamento totale di se stesso, fatto obbediente fino alla morte nella sua condizione di ammalato, nella sua condizione di silenzio imposto dalla malattia" (P. Menin, 10.3.06).
"Fr. Ivo - così il P. Luca nella omelia della Messa esequiale - è vissuto nell'umiltà, nella povertà più rigorosa, ha servito Dio e la comunità con uno spirito di sacrificio veramente straordinario. Egli si è distinto anche per l'amore alla Congregazione e per la devozione al Beato Fondatore" (10.3.2006).

Br. Ivo Consigli died at the Mother House at 5:00am on March 9 2006, in his own room of the fourth floor, under the loving gaze of His beloved statue of the Virgin Mary. He had been in the Mother House since 1988.
Born at Berceto (Parma) on March 10 1922, he died the day before his 84th Birthday.
After finishing primary school, Br. Ivo worked with his father in the fields. From January 1942, when he was 20 years old and the Second World War was being fought, he did his national service at Brunico and then at Marsala; from July 1943 until December 1945 he was a prisoner of the Anglo-American Allies in Tunisia and Morocco. He joined the Xaverians in Grumone (Oct. 24, 1946) where he completed an intense one-year study course of junior high school subjects; he then went on to attend two years of senior high school.
He completed the Novitiate year at S. Pietro in Vincoli (1949-50) and the presentation to First Profession thus described him: “Excellent piety. A good and meek temperament. A fine conscience, almost to the point of scrupulosity. Full of zeal for good works. Perhaps he lacks some equilibrium. But can one rightly speak of ‘equilibrium’ when dealing with a soul that is totally generous with God?… Only his charity towards others sheds light on his truly blind obedience” (Aug. 15, 1950).
His sensitivity and generosity are also evident in his application for admission to “Religious Profession and the Priesthood”: «I intend to bind my existence to this humble and small Congregation through sincere bonds of love; I consider these nuptials, which I desire from the bottom of my heart, as an eternal consecration of love. All my modest resources, united to the grace of God, will be channeled to this sole purpose: my own sanctification and the sanctification of others” (Aug. 14 1950).
After his Profession he attended Liceo at Desio (1950-53), spent a year as prefect at Parma (1953-54) and studied theology at Piacenza (1954-56). During the second year of theology, he suffered a bout of depression and, with various ups and downs, this syndrome was to affect him for the rest of his life; it also put an end to his dreams of becoming a priest. The Superiors General all answered his heartbroken and repeated requests to be ordained priest with great compassion: Fr. Castelli, for example, thus wrote to him: «Only God knows how much I would like to see you ordained Priest; it would be a great day for you and one of my own greatest satisfactions; but your health is not good and we cannot possibly think about ordination until we have sure proof of your recovery» (Jan 11 1961).
In the period 1957-1972 he was a member of the Brescia community, alternating periods of treatment at the Fatebenefratelli clinic and work in the house: «during these years I have accepted even the most humble work in order to be of service to the House and the vital missionary cause » (June 21 1967).
In 1972 he seemed to have made a good recovery and the Superiors assigned him to the Amazons. He worked there for five years amongst the poorest people of the ‘baixadas’ of Belem, grateful to the Superiors for having granted him «the great grace of working in the missions » (Dec. 30 1973). He returned to Italy (S. Pietro in Vincoli) in 1978. He was given responsibilities within the house and assigned to missionary propaganda work too; he also promoted devotion to the rosary in parishes and families. He continued this work, for as long as his health sustained him, also in Parma after his assignment to that community in 1988. During the last years of his life «he was stripped of himself and made obedient until death through the silence imposed upon him by illness». (Fr. Menin, March 10 2006).
During the Requiem Mass, Fr. Luca said: «Br. Ivo lived in humility and in the most rigorous poverty; he served God and the community with a truly extraordinary spirit of sacrifice. He also distinguished himself through his love for the Congregation and his devotion to Blessed Guido Conforti » (March 10 2006).
May the Lord welcome this humble and very generous servant into his Kingdom.
