CONCISA CRONISTORIA DELLA III SETTIMANA (13 - 20 luglio 2023) 

Venerdì 14 luglio 2023. La giornata è iniziata con l’Eucarestia animata dalla Delegazione delle Filippine.

I Padri Capitolari hanno dedicato tutta la giornata all’ascolto e revisione del lavoro della 1ª commissione il cui compito era di riflettere sui seguenti temi: 1) la vita comunitaria, 2) l’economia e 3) il servizio dell’autorità.

Con un primo sondaggio sull’elezione del padre Generale e la preghiera del Vespro si è conclusa la 14ª giornata del XVIII Capitolo Generale.

Sabato 15 luglio 2023. La liturgia è stata animata dalla delegazione della Tailandia.

Per tutta la giornata, oltre al momento dell’elezione del Padre Generale, l’Assemblea Capitolare ha continuato il lavoro iniziato venerdì 14 luglio 2023: lo studio e il discernimento delle riflessioni delle 4 commissioni. Sono stati trattati temi come l’ economia, la formazione permanente e la formazione di base.

Domenica 16 luglio 2023. La giornata domenicale ha nuovamente regalato ai Padri Capitolari l’opportunità di vivere la celebrazione eucaristica nelle comunità di Bukavu: un gruppo di Delegati ha partecipato a Panzi ed un altro a Vamaro. Riempie di gioia e di entusiasmo poter toccare con mano l’entusiasmo con cui le comunità congolesi celebrano il giorno del Signore in queste terre: canti ben eseguiti, ascolto attento della parola ed il corpo che accompagna la preghiera di lode. Molto significativo è stato anche l’incontro avuto ed il pranzo condiviso con il gruppo dei Laici Saveriani che anche qui a Bukavu ha iniziato il suo cammino. I Padri Capitolari sono testimoni di come il carisma di Mons. Conforti continui ad ispirare tante persone che, nel loro stato di vita, vogliono vivere con noi l’essere missionari.

Lunedì 17 luglio 2023. La giornata di oggi è cominciata con l’Eucaristia animata dalla circoscrizione della Cina.

Il lavoro dei Padri Capitolari è stato anche oggi il ritorno in assemblea dei lavori delle commissioni. Le commissioni ascoltate sono state la terza (la vocazione saveriana nel mondo), che ha concluso la sua presentazione e discussione in assemblea e la quarta (parrocchia missionaria e famiglia carismatica saveriana).

Dopo l’elezione del Padre Generale, l’Assemblea Capitolare ha iniziato la fase delle consultazioni, discernimento e scelta dei componenti del nuovo Consiglio Generale. Durante la recita dei vespri, i Padri Capitolari hanno voluto inserire una preghiera particolare di invocazione allo Spirito Santo, affinché sia Lui a orientarci nelle scelte importanti che restano da fare.

Martedì 18 luglio 2023. La celebrazione eucaristica è stata animata dalla delegazione del Mozambico. 

In mattinata i Padri Capitolari hanno ascoltato il lavoro fatto dalla IV Commissione sui temi della Parrocchia Missionaria, la Famiglia Carismatica ed il Laicato Saveriano. Si è conclusa così la fase dell’esame dei testi preparati dalle Commissioni.

I Padri Capitolari in questa giornata hanno eletto p. Mauro Loda per il servizio di Vicario Generale; p. Fabien Kalehezo T’Chiribuka per il servizio di Consigliere, confermandolo per un secondo sessennio; p. Felipe de Jesús López Orozco, messicano e attuale Superiore Regionale del Giappone per il servizio di Consigliere e p. Franciscus Xaverius Sudarmanto, indonesiano e attuale rettore del Filosofato di Giacarta, Indonesia. P. Sudarmanto è stato eletto pur non essendo Delegato al XVIII Capitolo Generale.                  

La preghiera vespertina e un momento di festa insieme hanno concluso i lavori capitolari del giorno.

Mercoledì 19 luglio 2023. La giornata capitolare è cominciata con l’Eucaristia animata dai confratelli del Regno Unito.

I lavori capitolari sono continuati nelle diverse commissioni dove, tenendo presente i suggerimenti ricevuti dagli stessi Padri Capitolari, si sono preparati i testi dei documenti per l’approvazione finale. Questo lavoro è iniziato nell’ultima parte della giornata.

Giovedì 20 luglio 2023. La giornata capitolare è iniziata con la celebrazione eucaristica animata dalla delegazione della Spagna. I lavori sono proseguiti con l’approvazione dei testi presentati dalle commissioni sulla vita comunitaria, l’economia e la leadership. A metà pomeriggio abbiamo ricevuto la visita di Mons. François-Xavier Maroy Rusengo, arcivescovo di Bukavu, accompagnato dal suo Vicario Generale, Mons. Floribert Bashimbe. Dopo esserci presentati e aver spiegato il senso della presenza del Capitolo Generale a Bukavu, Mons. Maroy ha ringraziato l’Istituto per la sua presenza nella Diocesi e ha ribadito l’importanza del carisma missionario nella Chiesa locale. Il nostro confratello p. Gabriel Basuswa, compagno di seminario del Vescovo, ha preso la parola dicendo: “Attraverso la tua presenza ripetiamo al popolo di Dio che è in Africa la nostra solidarietà e la nostra fede nel Dio che salva e consolida la fraternità tra tutti i popoli”. Nell’Adorazione Eucaristica i Padri Capitolari hanno pregato per tutte le necessità della famiglia Saveriana.

BRIEF CHRONICLE OF THE THIRD WEEK (JULY 13^TH-20^TH, 2023)

Friday, July 14^th, 2023. The day began with a Eucharistic celebration led by the Delegation of the Philippines.

The Chapter Fathers spent the whole day listening and reviewing the work of the 1^st commission whose task was to reflect on the following topics: 1) community life, 2) financial matters and 3) the service of authority.

The 14^th day of the XVIII General Chapter ended with the first straw ballot for the election of the General Father and the evening prayers.

Saturday, 15^th, 2023. The liturgy was led by the delegation of Thailand.

With the exception of the election of Father General, for the whole day the Chapter Assembly carried on the work begun on Friday, July 14^th, 2023: study and discernment of the reflections made by the 4 commissions. The assembly dealt with themes such as economy, on-going and initial formation.

Sunday, July 16^th, 2023. The Chapter Fathers were once again given the chance to celebrate Mass in the communities of Bukavu: a group of Delegates attended the celebration in Panzi and another in Vamaro. It gives reason for joy and excitement the possibility to experience first-hand the enthusiasm of Congolese communities when they celebrate the day of the Lord in these lands: songs are well performed, the Word is listened to with much attention, and their prayer of praise are accompanied by movements of the body. The encounter and lunch with the group of Xaverian Laity that has begun its journey here in Bukavu were also very meaningful. The Chapter Fathers are witnesses of how the charism of Msgr. Conforti continues to inspire many people who, in their own state of life, want to live the missionary vocation with us.

Monday, July 17^th, 2023. The day began with a Eucharistic celebration led by the Chinese circumscription.

On this day too, the activity of the Chapter Fathers consisted in the report to the assembly of the work done in the commissions. The assembly listened to the third (Xaverian vocation in the world) and forth (missionary parish and Xaverian charismatic family) commissions. 

After the election of the General Father, the Chapter Assembly initiated the phase of consultation, discernment and choice of the members of the new General Council. During the evening prayer, the Chapter Fathers wished to add a special invocation of the Holy Spirit, so that He might direct them in the important choices that remained to be made.

Tuesday, July 18^th, 2023. The Eucharistic celebration was led by the delegation of Mozambique.

In the morning, the Chapter Fathers listened to the work done by the Fourth Commission on the subjects of the Missionary Parish, the Charismatic Family and the Xaverian laity. Thus ended the phase of reviewing the texts prepared by the commissions.

On this Day, the Chapter Fathers: elected Fr. Mauro Loda for the service of Vicar General; confirmed Fr. Fabien Kalehezo T’Chiribuka for a second term as councillor; elected Fr. Felipe de Jesús López Orozco, Mexican and the incumbent Regional Superior of Japan, for the service of Councillor; and elected Fr. Franciscus Xaverius Sudarmanto, Indonesian and current rector of the Philosophy Community in Jakarta, Indonesia. Fr. Sudarmanto was elected despite not being a Delegate to the XVIII General Chapter.

The evening prayer and a moment of celebration together concluded the chapter works of the day.

Wednesday, July 19^th, 2023.  The day began with a Eucharistic celebration led by the UK confreres.

The Chapter’s work continued in the various commissions where, by taking into account the suggestions received from the Chapter Fathers, the texts of the documents were prepared for final approval. This work began in the last part of the day.

Thursday, July 20^th, 2023.  The Chapter’s day began with a Eucharistic celebration led by the Delegation of Spain. Works continued with the approval of the texts presented by the commissions on community life, economy and leadership. In mid-afternoon, Msgr. François-Xavier Maroy Rusengo, archbishop of Bukavu, accompanied by his Vicar General, Msgr. Floribert Bashimbe, paid a call on us. After we had introduced ourselves and clarified the significance of holding the General Chapter in Bukavu, Msgr. Maroy thanked our Institute for its presence in the Diocese and restated the importance of the missionary charism for the local Church. Our confrere Fr. Gabriel Basuswa, a seminary classmate of the Bishop, stood up and said: “Through your presence, we express once again our solidarity to the people of God that is in Africa; we trust in God who saves and consolidates the brotherhood among all peoples.”  During Holy Hour, the Chapter Fathers prayed for all the necessities of our Xaverian Family.
