Il p. Paul Magurn nacque il 21 settembre 1956 a Nicosia (Cipro) dove si trovava la sua famiglia. Tornati in Gran Bretagna, egli entrò come aspirante missionario nella nostra casa di Coatbridge nel 1968. Fece la professione religiosa nel 1975.
Studiò teologia per due anni nella nostra Casa Madre a Parma e terminò gli studi a Londra. Fu ordinato sacerdote nel 1981.
Desiderava partire presto per le missioni, ma il Signore lo trattenne in patria. Lavorò nella casa di Coatbridge fino al 1987, impegnandosi con generosa dedizione nella formazione di nuovi missionari e nell'animazione missionaria dei fedeli. In seguito fu rettore della casa di Preston e, dall'ottobre 1989, di quella di Londra. Era anche viceregionale della nostra circoscrizione della Gran Bretagna.
Nel 1989 partecipò al Capitolo Generale della congregazione con apprezzati contributi.
A nessuno rivelò il male che lo minava. La morte venne improvvisa il 19 ottobre 1989 per infarto cardiaco. Si sentì male mentre faceva nuoto in una piscina di Londra. Soccorso immediatamente dai sorveglianti e portato all'ospedale, vi arrivò morto. L'autopsia rivelò che aveva un tumore in stato avanzato; i polmoni erano già invasi per metà dal siero.
Il Signore lo ha chiamato a sé, lasciando a noi di meditare i suoi misteriosi disegni.
Riposa nel cimitero di Coatbridge.

Fr. Paul Gerard Magurn died of heart complications while taking a swim in a pool in London on Oct. 19 1989. The swimming pool guards responded quickly, but he arrived dead at the Hospital. The autopsy revealed that he had an advance form of tumor that took over his lungs. He was 33 years old, born on Sept. 21 1956 at Nicosia (Cipro Island).
He returned with his family to Great Britain soon after, and entered the Xaverians at Coatbridge in 1968, and professed religious mission vows on Aug. 15 1975. After two years of theology studies in Parma at the Mother House, and completion of his theology in London, he was ordained a priest on June 27 1981.
While desiring to leave for overseas mission assignment, he was asked to serve as formator and mission vocation director at Coatbridge until 1987. He was generous in his commitments towards the students, and involved in pastoral mission education among the people. He was then superior of the house of Preston, and from the beginning of October 1989 he was named superior of the house in London. He also served as vice-Provincial of Great Britain, and participated in the General Chapter of the summer 1989.
No one knew that cancer was taking hold of him. The Lord called him home so soon, that we may meditate of his loving designs. He is buried in the cemetery of Coatbridge (Scotland). May he rest in Peace.
