Martedì 13 aprile 2021, alle 8:00 am (ora locale), è deceduto a Kinshasa (R.D.C) il confratello p. Palmiro Cima. P. Palmiro aveva 89 anni, essendo nato il 4 ottobre 1931 a Cremona (Italia).
Proveniente dal Seminario Diocesano di Cremona (dove studia fino alla quinta ginnasio), nel 1948 il giovane Palmiro entra nella casa saveriana di San Pietro in Vincoli dove frequenta l’anno di noviziato.
Dopo la Prima Professione religiosa-missionaria (fatta il 18.10.1949 a S. Pietro in Vincoli), il giovane Palmiro continua con il consueto iter scolastico-formativo: liceo a Desio (1949-1952), Prefettato in Parma-Casa Madre (1952-1953) e teologia a Piacenza (1953-1957).
Viene ordinato Presbitero a Piacenza il 16.03.1957.
Dopo alcuni anni di servizio a Vicenza come insegnate e animatore vocazionale (1957-1962), p. Cima viene destinato allo Zaire (l’attuale Repubblica Democratica del Congo). Qui, dopo alcuni messi trascorsi a Uvira per lo studio della lingua locale (1962-1963) viene mandato come economo a Kiringye-Centro Medico Sociale (1963-1965); in seguito va a Baraka prima come viceparroco (1965-1966) e poi come parroco e rettore della casa (1966-1974).
Dopo un anno di servizio nella casa saveriana di Brescia (1974-1975), p. Cima ritorna in Zaire, dove viene inviato a Baraka come rettore della casa e parroco (1975-1977). In seguito va a Uvira come economo locale e viceparroco (1977-1980). Dal 1980 al 1987 lavora come viceparroco a Kidote.
Dopo un periodo di assenza (1987-1990), p. Cima ritorna in Zaire e viene assegnato a Kinshasa -Mpasa II, dove svolge il ruolo di incaricato delle costruzioni (1991-1992) e di viceparroco (1992-1995). Nel 1995 è anche parroco di Kinshasa – Kingabwa.
Dal 1996 in avanti, p. Cima alterna tempi di presenza e di lavoro pastorale nell’archidiocesi di Kinshasa come esclaustrato e di assenza vivendo in altre sedi. Negli ultimi tempi, p. Palmiro si era stabilito a Kinshasa, tenendo come punto di riferimento la vicina comunità saveriana del Noviziato (Kinshasa – Kingabwa).
“È la notte di S. Silvestro, l’ultimo dell’anno. Un anno, il ’67, che è filato via in un batter d’occhio qui a Baraka, portando però a maturazione i primi insperati frutti di questa terra che si è bevuta tanto sangue ed è stata teatro di tante lotte e battaglie dal ’64 ad oggi…. Mi pare che accettando coscientemente la realtà così com’è e al tempo stesso continuare a donarsi con disinteresse totale e generosità, sia il più bell’atto di fede che noi possiamo offrire al Signore e costituisca di per se stesso la garanzia del vero successo e di un bene duraturo…”. Rev. Fr. Palmiro Cima died on Tuesday, April 13th, 2021, at 8:00 am (local time in R.D. of Congo) in Kinshasa. Fr. Palmiro Cima was born on October 4th, 1931 in Cremona (Italy). He was 89 years old.
Coming from the Diocesan Seminary of Cremona (where he had studied and finished with his High School preparation), in 1948 Palmiro entered the Xaverian Missionary House of San Pietro in Vincoli, where he attended the year of Novitiate.
After his First Religious Missionary Profession, celebrated on October 18th, 1949, young Palmiro continued with the usual scholastic-formative process: College years in the city of Desio (1949-1952), Prefect of Students in Parma-Mother House (1952-1953) and Theology Studies in city of Piacenza (1953-1957).
On March 16th, 1957, Palmiro Cima was ordained Priest in Piacenza.
After few years of service in the areas of ministry and vocation animation in the Xaverian Missionary House of Vicenza (1957-1962), Fr. Cima was assigned to mission ministry to Zaire (in the current Democratic Republic of Congo)). Here, after some months spent in the city of Uvira for the study of the local languages (1962-1963), Fr. Cima was asked to serve as Treasurer of the Kiringye-Social Medical Center (1963-1965). Later, he went to Baraka, first as Assistant Parish Priest (1965-1966) and then as Parish Priest as well as Rector of the local Xaverian House (1966-1974).
After a full year of service and ministry in the Xaverian House of Brescia (1974-1975), Fr. Cima returned to Zaire and was asked to serve as Rector of the Xaverian House in Baraka and as Parish Priest (1977-1980). From 1980 to 1987, Fr. Cima worked as Assistant Parish Priest in the town of Kidote.
After a period of absence from Zaire (1987-1990), Fr. Palmiro Cima returned to Zaire and was assigned to Kinshsa-Mpasa II. There he followed the activity of construction of the local House Structures (1991-1992), while, at the same time, he was ministering as the local Parish Priest (1992-1995). In 1995, Fr. Palmiro Cima was also the Parish Priest of the Catholic Parish of the city of Kinshasa-Kingabwa.
From 1996 onwards, Fr. Cima alternated times of presence and pastoral work in the Archdioces of Kinshasa and periods of exclaustration and absence in other locations. In recent times, Fr. Palmiro Cima had settled in Kinshasa. His Xaverian House of reference was the nearby Xaverian Novitiate House (Kinshasa-Kingabwa).

A Year, 1967, which spun away in the blink of an eye here in Baraka, but bringing to maturity the first unexpected fruits on this land, which has drunk so much blood and has been the scene of so many struggles and battles from 1964 to today … It seems to me that, consciously accepting reality as it is and, at the same time, continuing to give oneself with total disinterest and generosity, is the most beautiful act of faith we can offer to the Lord.
