PARMA - 10 Giugno 2024, Rosanna Virgili ha tenuto una conferenza alla COSUMA 2024 su come Gesù ha compreso e vissuto l’autorità.
Virgili ha iniziato spiegando che la Chiesa cristiana è nata “sulla strada,” a differenza del giudaismo che aveva un tempio fisico. La missione cristiana è itinerante e mira a creare un mondo di relazioni basate sull’amicizia e la fratellanza universale, eliminando i nemici.
Differenza tra Leadership e Autorità
Un punto chiave del discorso di Virgili è stata la distinzione tra leadership e autorità. L’autorità (auctoritas) deriva dalla parola “autore” e “azione,” suggerendo una creazione divina. Nella Bibbia, Dio è l’unico vero detentore dell’autorità, e Gesù riflette questa autorità divina. La leadership, invece, è un termine aziendale che riguarda la gestione di affari e mercati, e non si applica alla missione cristiana.
Virgili ha sottolineato che l’autorità divina è unica e nessuno può averla allo stesso modo. Citando Gesù, “Non chiamate nessuno maestro sulla terra,” ha spiegato che l’autorità non può essere auto-generata ma deve sempre riferirsi a Dio.
Sapienza e Autorità
La sapienza è un elemento chiave che collega l’autorità umana a quella divina. Salomone, un re saggio, ha chiesto a Dio un “cuore ascoltante” per governare con comprensione e giustizia. La sapienza, secondo Virgili, aiuta a proteggere la vita di tutti, mentre il potere può corrompere e portare al dominio.
La Tentazione del Potere
Virgili ha parlato delle tentazioni di Gesù nel deserto, dove il diavolo cercava di convincerlo a usare il suo potere in modo egoistico. Gesù, però, ha risposto con atti di umiltà e condivisione, come la moltiplicazione dei pani, dimostrando che la vera autorità si basa sul servizio e la povertà. Questo contrastava con l’idea di un Dio potente, proponendo invece una comunità unita e solidale.
La Comunità e il Discernimento dello Spirito Santo
Nella sessione di domande, Virgili ha parlato di come riconoscere lo Spirito Santo collettivamente, attraverso il concilio e il confronto, evitando decisioni individuali che possono essere manipolate. L’autorità, se usata correttamente, serve a dare vita alla comunità, non a possederla o dominarla.
La Sapienza di Salomone
Virgili ha anche raccontato la storia di Salomone, che ha chiesto a Dio un cuore ascoltante, dimostrando che la vera saggezza sta nell’ascolto e nella comprensione. Questo tipo di autorità è opposto al potere corrotto che cerca solo il dominio e la ricchezza.
Salomone ha preferito la sapienza a “scettri e troni,” indicando che il vero leader deve essere un servo della sua comunità, capace di ascoltare e agire per il bene comune.
L’Autorità come Servizio
Rosanna Virgili ha ribadito che l’autorità di Gesù si basa sulla fraternità e il servizio, non sul dominio o il potere. PARMA - June 10, 2024 - Rosanna Virgili gave a lecture at COSUMA 2024 on how Jesus understood and lived authority.
Virgili began by explaining that the Christian Church was born "on the road" unlike Judaism which had a physical temple. The Christian mission is itinerant and aims to create a world of relationships based on friendship and universal brotherhood by eliminating enemies.
Difference between Leadership and Authority
A key point of Virgili's speech was the distinction between leadership and authority. Authority (auctoritas) comes from the word "author" and "action" suggesting a divine creation. In the Bible, God is the only true holder of authority and Jesus reflects this divine authority. Leadership, on the other hand, is a corporate term that deals with business and markets and does not apply to the Christian mission.
Virgili emphasized that divine authority is unique and no one can have it in the same way. Quoting Jesus "Do not call anyone on earth master" she explained that authority cannot be self-generated but must always refer to God.
Wisdom and Authority
Wisdom is a key element that links human authority to divine authority. Solomon, a wise king, asked God for a "listening heart" to rule with understanding and justice. Wisdom, according to Virgili, helps protect everyone's life while power can corrupt and lead to domination.
The Temptation of Power
Virgili spoke about Jesus' temptations in the desert where the devil tried to convince him to use his power selfishly. Jesus, however, responded with acts of humility and sharing, such as the multiplication of the loaves, demonstrating that true authority is based on service and poverty. This contrasted with the idea of a powerful God, instead proposing a united and supportive community.
The Community and the Discernment of the Holy Spirit
In the question session, Virgili talked about how to recognize the Holy Spirit collectively through council and confrontation, avoiding individual decisions that can be manipulated. Authority, if used correctly, serves to give life to the community, not to possess or dominate it.
The Wisdom of Solomon
Virgili also recounted the story of Solomon who asked God for a listening heart, showing that true wisdom lies in listening and understanding. This type of authority is opposed to corrupt power that seeks only domination and wealth.
Solomon preferred wisdom to "scepters and thrones" indicating that the true leader must be a servant of his community capable of listening and acting for the common good.
Authority as Service
Rosanna Virgili reiterated that Jesus' authority is based on brotherhood and service, not domination or power. This model of authority promotes a united and supportive community where the leader is the one who serves others following Jesus' example. The Church, therefore, must learn to manage authority as Jesus did through wisdom, listening, and service, creating a world of universal friendship and brotherhood.
