La mia esperienza di studio a Roma

In questi due anni mi è stato chiesto di studiare presso il Centro San Pietro Favre per Formatori al Sacerdozio e alla Vita Consacrata dell’Università Gregoriana. Lo scopo del Centro è quello di fornire una preparazione adeguata ai formatori di candidati al sacerdozio e alla vita consacrata. Un'esperienza interessante e stimolante. Ho studiato con circa 50 studenti (per lo più sacerdoti e alcune suore) di varie congregazioni e diocesi di vari paesi. Esperienza di diversità molto forte. Il modello di apprendimento presso il Centro San Pietro Favre sottolinea l'importanza della formazione che si svolge in un contesto comunitario. Siamo impegnati a elaborare corsi insieme, anche in piccoli gruppi, in modo da poter condividere e discutere in modo concreto e personale.

Personalmente, questo incarico di studio mi ha arricchito. Prima di tutto, questo percorso di studi è stato un'esperienza di formazione permanente. Sono stato guidato a capire che il compito di coltivare se stessi per una vocazione significativa ha bisogno di essere portato avanti continuamente per tutta la vita. Sono stato anche guidato a capire che ogni fase della vita contiene una missione speciale da offrire con gioia. Dopo le tappe missionarie in Indonesia e in Sierra Leone, poi negli ultimi due anni in Italia, ho bisogno di elaborare la mia vita in ogni fase per una missione significativa.

In secondo luogo, questo incarico di studio si aggiunge alla mia disponibilità per la missione ad essere coinvolto nel campo della formazione, se sarà necessario in futuro. Sono stato guidato a capire che il ruolo di un formatore è quello di un fratello maggiore che accompagna i candidati nel discernimento della propria vita davanti al Signore che li chiama. Un formatore che ha vissuto l'auto-discernimento può essere di aiuto all'auto-elaborazione del candidato. Quindi la cosa principale non è la proposta di informazioni adeguate, ma come utilizzare questi contenuti per il processo di auto-discernimento. Ho ancora bisogno di continuare a digerirlo e ad applicarlo attraverso la pratica e l'esperienza. Quindi, ad essere sincero, questa esperienza di studio ha anche alleggerito il mio fardello mentale e le mie riserve ad accettare una missione nel campo della formazione.

In terzo luogo, l'incarico di studio mi ha aiutato ad apprezzare di più i meravigliosi doni della vita missionaria e mi ha incoraggiato a ben nutrirli e a condividerli generosamente con gli altri. Sono continuamente più grato perché sempre più trovo nella vita missionaria un dono prezioso e mi è ancora permesso di sperimentare il processo di crescita e maturazione. Ho bisogno di prendermi cura di questo bellissimo dono della vita missionaria in modo che non diminuisca in qualità e rimanga il tesoro prezioso donato da Dio alla mia vita. È vero che le persone mi dicono che sono una persona benedetta per il dono della vita missionaria. Così, come dice S. Paolo, “Guai a me se non predico il vangelo” (1Cor 9,16), questo dono della vita missionaria è anche da condividere generosamente con gli altri.

Infine, sono molto grato alla mia famiglia missionaria per avermi dato l'opportunità di sottopormi a questo periodo di studio. Perché sia da tutti conosciuto e amato nostro Signore Gesù Cristo.

Gratitude for the gift of missionary life – a gift to be nurtured and shared

My experience studying in Rome

During these two years I was sent to study at the Gregorian University, Centro San Pietro Favre per Formatori al Sacerdozio e alla Vita Consacrata. This Centro aims at providing adequate training for formators of candidates for priestly and consecrated life. It is an interesting and challenging experience. I studied with about 50 classmates (mostly priests and a few nuns) coming from various congregations and dioceses of several countries. It has been a very strong experience of diversity. The learning model at the Centro San Pietro Favre emphasizes the importance of formation being carried out within a communitarian framework. We are encouraged to process our courses together, also in small groups, so that we can share and discuss in a concrete and personal way.

Personally, this study commitment enriched me. First of all, this study experience was an ongoing formation experience. I was guided to understand that the task of cultivating oneself for the sake of a meaningful vocation needs to be carried on continuously throughout life. I was also guided to understand that every stage of life has a special mission to be offered with joy. After the missionary stages in Indonesia (7 years) and in Sierra Leone (8 years), then over the last two years in Italy, I need to work on my life at every stage for a meaningful mission.

The second point is that this study assignment adds to my readiness for mission in the field of formation if it will be necessary for me to be involved in it in the future. I was guided to understand that the role of a formator is as that of an older brother who accompanies the candidates in making a discernment of their own lives before the Lord who calls them. A formator who has undergone self-discernment can offer a real help to the candidate's vocational journey. So the main thing is not the inputs of adequate information, but how to use these inputs for the self-discernment process. I myself still need to continue to digest and apply it through practice and experience. Thus, to be honest, this study experience also enlightened my resistance to accept a mission in the field of formation.

Thirdly, this study commitment has helped me to appreciate more and more the wonderful gifts of missionary life and encourage me to nurture them much better and share them generously with others. I am more and more grateful because I increasingly find missionary life a valuable gift and am still allowed to experience the process of growth and maturity. I need to take care of this beautiful gift of missionary life so that it does not diminish in quality and remains a valuable treasure given by God in my life. It is true that people tell me that I am a blessed person, because of the gift of missionary life. For this reason, I want to repeat the words of St. Paul, “Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel” (1Cor 9:16), because the gift of missionary life also has to be shared generously with others.

Finally, I am very grateful to my congregation family for giving me the opportunity to undergo this period of study-formation. May our Lord Jesus Christ be known and loved by all.

Syukur atas anugerah hidup misioner untuk dipelihara dan dibagikan

Pengalaman saya belajar di Roma

Selama dua tahun ini saya menjalani perutusan belajar di Centro San Pietro Favre per Formatori al Sacerdozio e alla Vita Consecrata, Universitas Gregoriana. Centro ini bertujuan untuk menyediakan pembinaan yang memadai kepada mereka yang akan menjadi pembina calon-calon imam dan hidup bakti. Pengalaman yang menarik dan sekaligus menantang. Saya belajar bersama 50-an mahasiswa (kebanyakan pastor dan beberapa suster) yang berasal dari beberapa kongregasi dan keuskupan dari berbagai negara. Pengalaman keberagaman yang sangat kuat. Model pembelajaran di Centro San Pietro Favre ini menekankan pentingnya dimensi komuniter dalam formasi. Kami diarahkan untuk mengolah materi dalam semangat kebersamaan, juga dalam kelompok-kelompok kecil sehingga bisa berbagi dan berdiskusi secara konkret dan personal.

Secara pribadi perutusan ini tentunya memperkaya diri saya. Pertama-tama pengalaman belajar ini merupakan pengalaman ongoing formation. Saya dibimbing untuk memahami bahwa tugas mengolah diri demi sebuah panggilan yang bermakna perlu dilakukan terus-menerus sepanjang hidup. Saya juga dibimbing untuk memahami bahwa setiap tahap dalam hidup itu terkandung misi khusus untuk dipersembahkan dengan sukacita. Sesudah tahap misioner di Indonesia dan di Sierra Leone, kemudian lebih dari dua tahun terakhir ini di Italia, setiap tahap hidup saya perlu saya olah demi perutusan yang bermakna.

Yang kedua, perutusan ini juga menambah kesiapsediaan saya untuk perutusan di bidang pembinaan jika nantinya memang perlu terlibat. Saya dibimbing untuk memahami bahwa peran pembina adalah sebagai saudara yang lebih tua yang mendampingi para calon dalam mengolah hidupnya sendiri di hadapan Tuhan yang memanggilnya. Seorang pembina yang telah lebih dulu menjalani pengolahan diri diharapkan bisa lebih siap membantu proses olah diri para calon.  Maka yang utama bukanlah masukan materi-materi yang memadai itu, melainkan bagaimana masukan-masukan tersebut membantu proses pengolahan diri. Saya sendiri masih perlu terus mencerna dan menerapkannya melalui praktek dan pengalaman. Dengan demikian, sejujurnya, pengalaman belajar ini juga meringankan beban mental saya untuk menerima perutusan dalam bidang pembinaan.

Yang ketiga, perutusan ini membantu saya untuk semakin mensyukuri anugerah indah hidup misioner dan mendorong saya untuk memeliharanya dengan baik dan membagikannya dengan murah hati kepada sesama. Saya semakin bersyukur karena saya semakin menemukan hidup misioner sebagai anugerah yang sungguh berharga dan tetap boleh mengalami proses pertumbuhan dan pematangannya. Anugerah indah hidup misioner ini perlu saya pelihara supaya tidak berkurang kualitasnya dan tetap menjadi harta berharga pemberian Tuhan dalam hidup saya. Benar sekali ketika orang berkata bahwa saya adalah orang yang beruntung, ya karena anugerah hidup misioner. Maka seperti St Paulus berkata: “Celakalah aku jika aku tidak mewartakan Injil” (1 Kor 9:16),  anugerah hidup misioner ini adalah untuk dibagikan kepada sesama dengan murah hati.

Akhirnya saya sangat berterima kasih kepada kongregasi yang telah memberi kesempatan kepada saya untuk menjalani masa perutusan belajar ini. Semoga Tuhan kita Yesus Kristus semakin dikenal dan dicintai banyak orang.
