Missionario in Brasile e Promotore della Causa di Beatificazione del Fondatore. Di anni 73. Sepolto a Parma
Nato a Verciano di Capannori (LU) il 10.III.1907, entra nell'Istituto di Parma a vent'anni e inizia subito il Noviziato il 10.XI.1927.
A 25 anni è ordinato Sacerdote e rimane per tanti anni al servizio degli Allievi Missionari come Professore di Italiano, a Grumone prima e poi alla Casa Madre.
Nel 1940 la guerra lo toglie alla Cattedra e lo porta in mare: cappellano militare sulla motonave "Eritrea". Conclusosi l'estenuante conflitto, è trattenuto a Roma come Segretario dell'Opera Pontificia "Unione Missionaria del Clero", e ne dirigerà la Rivista "Clero e Missioni"; anzi ne vorrà una esclusiva per i Seminaristi: "Euntes". Inoltre l'Istituto gli affida il compito di "Promotore della Causa di Beatificazione" del Ven. Fondatore.
Con questi impegni ha tutta la possibilità di esplicare il suo animo missionario. Nel 1957 può finalmente coronare il suo ideale di sempre: raggiungere il campo lontano. E il 6 marzo, alla bella età di 50 anni si imbarca per il Brasile.
È fatto Superiore di quella vasta regione saveriana, che incrementerà di parecchio, grazie anche alle ottime relazioni con il Card. Rossi, Arcivescovo di S. Paolo. Ma non saranno anni facili. La salute ne risentirà, tanto che sarà costretto al rientro in patria.
In Italia avrà una buona ripresa e potrà continuare come Promotore della Causa di Beatificazione del Fondatore.
Nel 1978 rientra a Parma, ove trova amorosa assistenza presso i Confratelli della Casa Madre e dello Studentato Teologico.
La lunga sofferenza lo indebolisce fisicamente, cancellando in lui quasi tutto della baldanzosa possanza, ma lo raffina nello spirito: sempre grande nell'amore all'Istituto, sempre più grande nell'amore a Mons. Conforti.
Muore in Casa Madre 1'8.X.1980 all'età di 73 anni.

Father Giulio Barsotti died at the Mother House of Parma on Oct. 8 1980 for consequences of advanced diabetes. He was 73 years old, born at Verciano di Capannori (Lucca) on March 10 1907.
He joined the Xaverians at Parma when he was 20 years old, and soon after, started the Year of Novitiate on Nov. 10 1927. He is ordained to the Priesthood on Feb. 20 1932 at 25 years old, and was asked to be Professor of Italian for the students at Grumone and at Parma.
During the World War II, he was called to serve as a navy chaplain on the motorboat “Eritrea.” Afterwards, he is called to Rome as Secretary of the Pontifical Works of “Missionary Union of the Clergy” and director of the Magazine “Clero e Missioni” and thought of founding a paper for Seminarians “Euntes.” While in Rome, he is put in charge of the cause of Beatification of our Founder.
After about 10 years of this activity, he is assigned to Brazil on March 6 1957, at the age of 50. While there, Fr. Giulio is elected Provincial Superior of that vast region, and keeps good relationships with Card. Rossi, Archbishop of Sao Paolo. As Regional Superior, he opened the house of Jaguapità (1960), the presence in Belèm (1962), the small seminary of Laranjeiras do Sul (1961) and the Domus in Villa Mariana.
But his poor health gets holds of him, and he’s obliged to return to Italy, and was assigned to Rome because of his office of Postulator of the Cause of Msgr. Conforti.
He continues the cause of beatification of our Founder while in Italy, and then, in 1978, goes to the Mother House in Parma where the confreres and the students of the Theology assist him with loving care. It was a long-suffering experience, but his spirit never wavered; he loved the Congregation, and even more Msgr. Conforti.
Fr. Barsotti was also known for his many writings and books, showing great skill in this sector. His literary works included the following: “Etiopia Cristiana” (1939), “Rinascita” (1942), “La via Mirabile” (1944), “Un Pensiero Missionario” (1950), “L.Amico dei Malati” (1945), “Il Servo di Dio Guido Maria Conforti” (1963), “Dove va l’Etiopia?” (1954), “Itinerario alla Gloria” (1956), “Il Padre dei Saveriani” (1956), “Evangelium Paganorum: il volto e l’anima dell’Unione Missionaria del Clero” (1960), “Santità Sacerdotale: meditazioni” (1965), “Più vivo dei vivi” (1971), “Sola con Dio solo” (1972), “L’Anima di Mons. Conforti", “Le Donne del Vangelo”, “Gli animali nel Vangelo”.
