Il 17 marzo 2019, intorno alle ore 10:00 ore locali, si è spento nell’ospedale di Dhaka (Bangladesh) P. Alfio Coni. P. Alfio aveva compiuto 77 anni, essendo nato ad Ales (Oristano, IT) il 04.02.1942.
Nel 1953, al termine della 4° elementare, il giovane Alfio entra nella casa saveriana di Nizza Monferrato. In seguito continua gli studi di scuola inferiore in varie case saveriane: Massa L. (1954-1955), Nizza M. (1955-1956), Alzano L. (1956-1957), Zelarino (1957-1960).
Dopo l’anno di noviziato trascorso a S. Pietro in Vincoli, il giovane Alfio emette la Prima Professione religiosa-missionaria a Parma il 03.10.1961. In seguito il giovane Alfio continua con la consueta formazione di base: studi liceali a Desio (1961-1963) e a Tavernerio (1963-1964); prefettato ad Alzano L. (1964-1965); studi teologici a Parma (1965-1970).
Viene ordinato presbitero a Vicenza il giorno 12.10.1969.
Dopo la fine della Teologia, p. Alfio viene destinato all’Italia dove gli viene chiesto di lavorare come vice rettore ed insegnante nella Scuola Apostolica di Cagliari (1970-1971). In seguito, lo troviamo a Roma dove frequenta un corso per formatori (1972-1973).
Dopo un anno di studio della lingua inglese a Londra, nel 1973 p. Alfio parte per il Bangladesh. Dopo un anno di lingua a Khulna, svolge il suo ministero a Satkhira come vice parroco (1974-1975) e a Jessore come parroco (1975-1977).
Dopo un anno di riposo-aggiornamento, p. Alfio viene destinato all’Italia dove svolge per alcuni anni il servizio di insegnante ed animatore interno ad Alzano L. (1978-1982).
Nel gennaio del 1983, p. Alfio viene destinato al Bangladesh, più precisamente a Shimulia come parroco (1983-1990). Dopo un periodo di aggiornamento (in Italia) e di studi (a Manila), p. Alfio viene mandato alla comunità di formazione di Dhaka come rettore e formatore (1992-2002), poi alla casa di accoglienza di Dhaka come rettore (2002-2010) e infine alla comunità di formazione di Dhaka, sempre come rettore (2010-2013).
Nel 2013 rientra in Italia per cure e, nel 2014 viene destinato allo Studentato Teologico di Parma come Direttore Spirituale.
Il 02.12.2018 p. Alfio rientra in Bangladesh soggiornando nella casa regionale di Khulna. Il 9 marzo 2019 viene ricoverato per sospetta infezione virale. All’inizio ha dei segni di miglioramento, ma il 16 marzo improvvisamente c’è un aggravarsi dei problemi respiratori e il 17 mattina il cuore si ferma. A nulla sono serviti i tentativi dei medici di rianimarlo.
“Dotato di un grande gusto del bello” adesso p. Alfio può contemplare la Bellezza in assoluto: la gloria di Dio.

On March 17, 2019, around 10:00 AM, Fr. Alfio Coni passed away, while in the Hospital of Dhaka (Bangladesh). He was 77 years old, and was born in Ales (Oristano, IT) on February 4th, 1942.
In 1953, right after the end of the fourth grade of Elementary School, Alfio entered the Xaverian House of Nizza Moferrato. Continued with his studies in the Xaverian Houses of Massa Lucana (1954–1955), Mizza Nonferrato (1955–1956), Alzano Lombardo (1956–1957), Zelarino (1957–1960).
After his Novitiate year in S. Pietro in Vincoli, young Alfio celebrated his First Religious Missionary Profession in Parma, on October 3rd, 1961. Young Alfio then continued his basic education and formation: College Studies in Desio (1961–1963) and in Tavernerio (1963–1964). He was then sent as ‘Prefect of Students’ at Alzano Lombardo (1964 1965). His Theological Formation happened in Parma (1965–1970).
Fr. Alfio Coni was ordained Priest in the city of Vicenza, on October 10th, 1969.
Having terminated with his Theological Studies, Fr. Alfio Coni was assigned to work the Region of Italy. He was first Vice-Rector and Teacher in the Apostolic School of Cagliari (1970–1971). In the years 197 –1973 Fr. Alfio Coni was attending a special course for Formators.
After a whole year spent studying English Language in London, Fr. Alfio Coni left for Bangladesh. Again another whole year of Language in Dhaka (Bangladesh). Then Fr. Coni began his ministry and work in Satkhira as Assistant Parish Priest (1974–1975) and In Jessor as Parish Priest (1975–1977).
There followed a year of rest and renewal. Fr. Alfio Coni was then assigned to the Italian Region. In the years 1978–1982, Fr. Coni ministered as Teacher and as Mission Educator in Alzano Lombardo.
In January 1983, Fr. Alfio Coni was again assigned to the Mission of Bangladesh, more precisely as Parish Priest of Shimulia (1983–1990). After a year of updating in Italy and studies in Manila, Fr. Alfio Coni was asked to be Rector and Formator in the Formation House of Dhaka (1992–2002). Then moved to the other Xaverian House of Dhaka as Rector (2002–2010), and then to the Formation House of Dhaka as Rector (2010–2013).
In the year 2013, Fr. Alfio Coni returned to Italy for health reasons and, in 2014, was assigned to the Theology Students House in Parma as Spiritual Director.
On December 2nd, 2018, Fr. Alfio Coni returned to Bangladesh, staying in the Xaverian House of Khulna. On March 9th, 2019 Fr. Coni was taken to the Hospital for a viral infection. In the beginning there seemed to be some signs of recovery. Suddenly, on March 16th, there appeared some serious breathing problems, and on the following day, March 17th, his heart stopped beating. All the efforts to revive him, were not successful.
“Gifted with an extraordinary sensitivity for beauty” now Fr. Alfio Coni will certainly be able to contemplate the Absolute Beauty: the Glory of God.

Le 17 mars 2019, autour de 10h, s’est éteint à l’Hôpital de Dhaka (Bangladesh), le p. Alfio Coni. Il avait fêté 77 ans, étant né à Ales (Oristano, Italie), le 04.02.1942.
En 1953, au terme de la 4ème année primaire, le jeune Alfio entra dans la maison xavérienne de Nizza Monferrato. Il continua les études dans plusieurs maisons de formation : Massa Lucania (1954-1955), Nizza Monferrato (1955-1956), Alzano Lombardo (1956-1957), Zelarino (1957-1960). Après l’année de noviciat à San Pietro in Vincoli, le jeune Alfio fait la première profession religieuse-missionnaire à Parme le 03.10.1961. Il poursuivit les études à Desio (1961-1963), à Tavernerio (1963-1964), à Alzano Lombardo (1964-1965, stage) et à Parme (1965-1970, pour les études de théologie). Il fut ordonné prêtre à Vicenza le 12.10.1969.
Au terme du Théologat, le p. Alfio fut destiné à l’Italie pour rendre service comme formateur dans la Maison de formation de Cagliari (1970-1971) et pour suivre un cours de formation des formateurs (1972-1973).
Après une année de stage de langue à Londres, en 1973 il arriva au Bangladesh. Il rendit service à Satkhira comme vicaire paroissial (1974-1975) et à Jessore comme curé (1975-1977). Il revint en Italie comme formateur à Alzano Lombardo (1978-1982).
En janvier 1983, Alfio fut affecté au Bangladesh, à Shimulia comme curé (1983-1990). Après une période d’aggiornamento en Italie et à Manille, il fut envoyé à la communauté de formation à Dhaka comme recteur (1992-2002), puis à la maison d’accueil de Dhaka comme recteur (2002-2010) et enfin à la communauté de formation de Dhaka (2010-2013).
Rentré en Italie pour des soins médicaux, il fut envoyé au Théologat de Parme comme Directeur Spirituel (2014-2018).
Le 02.12.2018, Alfio rentre au Bangladesh en passant par la maison régionale de Khulna. Le 9 mars 2019, il fut hospitalisé pour une infection virale. Au commencement, il manifestait des signes d’amélioration, mais le 16 mars, subitement, il s’est aggravé suite à des graves insuffisances respiratoires. Le 17 mars le coeur s’est arrêté. Inutiles les tentatives des médecins de le réanimer.
« Doué d’un grand goût de la beauté », maintenant, le p. Alfio peut contempler la Beauté sublime : la gloire de Dieu.
Qu’il repose en paix.
