P. TIBERIO MUNARI
Sul mezzogiorno del 14 settembre 2016 a Zapopan (Messico) si è spento P. Tiberio Munari.
Aveva 96 anni compiuti, essendo nato a Grantorto (Padova – Italia) il 5 novembre 1919.
Entrò all'Istituto il 9.10.1931, a Vicenza, dove frequentò il ginnasio inferiore. Nel 1934 passò a Grumone per il ginnasio superiore. Nel 1936 fu ammesso al Noviziato e il 12.9.1937 emise la Prima Professione. Seguirono i tre anni di Liceo a Parma (37-40), il Prefettato a Poggio S. Marcello (40-41) e gli studi teologici a Parma (41-45). Fu ordinato presbitero a Parma il 29.6.1945.
“P. Tiberio –così scrisse il suo Rettore di teologia (20.9.44) - fu assai impegnato nella sua formazione”. Impostata allora sulla ‘sublimità’ della vocazione e l’eroismo della risposta, non senza qualche riverbero di stile militare, inevitabile, si direbbe, in quegli anni delle dittature in Europa finite nella catastrofica seconda guerra mondiale. Il suo desiderio era di “far parte degli Apostoli di Cristo nella conquista del mondo infedele” (1936); prometteva di essere “figlio obbedientissimo” (1937); era convinto che “molti ci invidiano la bella sorte di mandati da Dio, e quasi vorrebbero tornare giovani per essere come noi soldati scelti del buon Dio” (1941). “Piacque alla bontà del Signore chiamarmi alla sublime vocazione religiosa sacerdotale missionaria” (1944); “inginocchiato davanti all’altare di Dio, sopra le ossa sacratissime dei martiri mi accingo a far domanda per i ministeri ordinati”.
Dal 1945 al 1960 prestò il suo servizio in Italia: insegnante, propagandista e vicerettore a Vicenza (45-46)e a Udine (46-48); visitatore PPOOMM nei Seminari (48-50); Vicerettore a Parma (50-56); Rettore della casa di Brescia (57-60). Si dedicò particolarmente alla animazione missionaria: “In città (Udine) –scriveva al P. Generale- sto organizzando gli amici di Voci d’Oltre Mare … tento di inserire qualche notizia ogni settimana in Vita Cattolica, il settimanale diocesano …Ventiliamo pure l’idea di un foglietto nostro […]. Godo nel sentire le buone notizie della nostra Congregazione e del suo espandersi”. Al riguardo P. Tiberio fu il primo Vicerettore di Udine e il primo rettore di Brescia e, come documentato dalla corrispondenza, propose di farsi presenti a Pordenone, Venezia, Bari e Salerno.
Nel 1962, dopo una breve parentesi di lavoro in Congo (60-61), fu inviato in Spagna con l’incarico di realizzare le strutture per costituire una circoscrizione saveriana nella patria del Saverio. Unico aiuto per la realizzazione del progetto, la larga benedizione del Superiore Generale alla partenza per la Spagna. Nel giro di pochi anni gli ambienti furono pronti: Madrid (Casa Regionale), Pozuelo de Alarcon (Studentato teologico), Guernica (Casa apostolica), Pamplona (Centro vocazionale). “Purtroppo le occupazioni materiali ci impediscono un poco a mirare direttamente e darci con tutte le forze al nostro lavoro di propaganda. Adesso che Pozuelo è una realtà, bisogna riempirlo di vocazioni” (9.2.68)!
Nel 1977 fu destinato al Messico. Ricoprì l’incarico di economo e insegnante a San Juan del Rio (’77-’83). Dal 1984 al 2006 fu Rettore del Centro Xavier a Guadalajara e a Zapopan. Oltre che dirigere il bollettino "Misioneros Xaverianos" pubblicò una sessantina di libri: brevi biografie di missionari, di santi e dei martiri messicani; libri mariani e devozionali. Una attività portata avanti fino a un anno dalla morte.
P. Tiberio fu un grande devoto della Madonna. Difficilmente nella sua corrispondenza manca un cenno alla Vergine. Nel settembre 1946 partecipò al Congresso Mariano sacerdotale a Padova. Fu un convinto devoto della Madonna di Medjugorje diffondendone la devozione in Messico con conferenze, pubblicazioni, gruppi di preghiera e nei fitti colloqui individuali con uomini e donne, giovani e adulti a Zapopan.
Nella sua spiritualità mariana -ha rilevato il P. Provinciale nell’omilia della messa esequiale- brillano due titoli spiccatamente missionari: “María, Reina de la Paz e Señora de todos los pueblos […]. Percorrendo il cammino mariano, poco a poco si identificò con la Madre nel suo ‘Si faccia di me secondo la sua parola’. La Divina Volontà riempì, negli ultimi anni, la vita di P. Tiberio. Viveva la sua missionarietà come collaboratore dello Spirito, assecondando i sentimenti del Popolo di Dio verso Maria. Giunse così alla pienezza della sua esistenza, del suo servizio. Il cammino mariano era diventato il sentiero nel quale Maria accompagna a Gesù”.

FR. TIBERIO MUNARI
Fr. Tiberio Munari died on 14 September 2016, in Zapopan (Mexico). Born in Grantorto (Padua, Italy) on 5 November 1919, he was 96 years old.
He joined the Institute in Vicenza, on 9 October 1931, where he attended junior high school. In 1934 he moved to Grumone for senior high school. In 1936 he was admitted to Novitiate and he made his First Profession on 12 September 1937. This was followed by three years of Lyceum in Parma (1937-40), a year as Prefect in Poggio S. Marcello (1940-41) and theology studies in Parma (1941-45). He was ordained priest in Parma on 29 June 1945.
On 20 September 1944, his Theology Rector wrote: “Tiberio was very committed to his formation”, which at that time was based upon the ‘sublime nature’ of vocation and the heroism of the response, not without some military echoes, which was perhaps inevitable in the light of the years of European dictatorships, which led to the catastrophic second world war. Tiberio wanted to be “part of the Apostles of Christ in the conquest of the infidel world” (1936); he promised to be “a very obedient son” (1937); he was convinced that “many envy us the wonderful destiny of being sent by God, and they almost wish to become young again so they could be sent out, like us soldiers, who have been chosen by the good God” (1941). “In his goodness, it pleased God to call me to the sublime missionary religious-priestly vocation” (1944); “on my knees before the altar of God, and on the sacred bones of the martyrs, I prepare to ask to be admitted to the ordained ministries”.
From 1945 until 1960 he worked in Italy as a teacher, in vocation propaganda and as Vice-Rector in Vicenza (1945-46) and Udine (1946-48); PPOOMM visitor to the Seminaries for the Pontifical Mission Societies (1948-50); Vice-Rector in Parma (1950-56); Rector of the Brescia community(1957-60). He dedicated himself particularly to missionary animation: “In the town (Udine) I am organizing the friends of the Voci d’Oltre Mare group… I try to have some news published every week in Vita Cattolica, the weekly diocesan newspaper …We are also thinking about having our own news bulletin […]. I am pleased to hear the good news of our Congregation and its expansion” (Letter to the Superior General). In connection with this, Fr. Tiberio was the first Vice-Rector of Udine and the first Rector of Brescia and, as his correspondence shows, he suggested presences in Pordenone, Venezia, Bari and Salerno.
In 1962, after a brief period of work in the Congo (1960-61), he was sent to Spain with the task of opening structures to establish a Xaverian Circumscription in the home country of St. Francis Xavier. The sole help for fulfilling the project was the blessing of the Superior General upon his departure for Spain. In the space of a few years, the houses were ready: Madrid (Regional House), Pozuelo de Alarcon (Theology community), Guernica (minor seminary), Pamplona (Vocations center). “Unfortunately, our material occupations prevent us somewhat from getting fully and directly involved in our vocation propaganda work. Now that the house of Pozuelo is open, we must fill it with vocations” (9.2.68)!
In 1977 he was assigned to Mexico, where he worked as treasurer and teacher in San Juan del Rio (1977-83). From 1984 until 2006 he was Rector at the Centro Xavier in Guadalajara and in Zapopan. Besides directing the bulletin Misioneros Xaverianos, he also published about sixty books: short biographies of missionaries, saints and Mexican martyrs; Marian and devotional books. He carried out this activity until the year before his death.
Fr. Tiberio was very devoted to Our Blessed Lady and almost his entire correspondence contains references to her. In September 1946 he took part in the Marian Congress for priests in Padua. He was a convinced devotee of Our Lady of Medjugorje and spread devotion to her in Mexico with conferences, publications, prayer groups and many individual conversations with men and women, young people and adults in Zapopan.
During the homily at the funeral Mass, the Regional Superior referred to his Marian spirituality, and said that two very missionary titles of Mary stood out: “María, Reina de la Paz and Señora de todos los pueblos […]. Walking with Mary, he came to identify with her ‘Let it be done unto me according to your word’. The Will of God filled the last years of his life. He lived his missionary vocation as a collaborator of the Spirit, complying with the sentiments of God’s people for Mary. He thus reached the fullness of his existence and service. The Marian path had become the path along which Mary accompanied Jesus”.
