P. Stefano Coronese

Il 21.03.2020, nel primo pomeriggio, è deceduto all’Ospedale di Parma, P. Stefano Coronese. Il confratello aveva 88 anni, essendo nato a Massafra (Taranto – IT) il 27.12.1931.

Da fanciullo, Stefano entra tra gli Scouts. Qui si impregna dello spirito di fraternità e di universalità che lo spinge a farsi missionario (cfr. testimonianza su MS aprile 2016).

Nel settembre del 1952 il giovane Stefano entra nella casa saveriana di Poggio S. Marcello. Dopo gli studi ginnasiali a Pedrengo (1952-1954), a settembre del 1954 Stefano va a S. Pietro in Vincoli per l’anno di noviziato.

Dopo la Prima Professione religiosa-missionaria (fatta il 12.09.1955), il giovane Stefano continua con il consueto iter scolastico-formativo: liceo a Desio (1955-1958), propedeutica a Piacenza (1958-1959), teologia a Parma (1959-1963).

Viene ordinato Presbitero a Parma il 28.10.1962.

Finiti gli studi teologici, p. Stefano viene destinato allo CSAM di Parma come direttore di “Missionari Saveriani” (1963-1966) e poi a Taranto come rettore della casa (1966-1968).

Nel 1968 p. Stefano viene destinato all’Indonesia. Dopo un anno passato a Padang per lo studio della lingua (1968-1969), lavora come vice parroco dapprima a Sikakap (1969-1970) e poi a Padang Baru (1970-1971).

Dopo un anno trascorso in Svizzera come Cappellano degli Emigranti Italiani (1971-1972), p. Stefano viene destinato alla Scuola Apostolica di Cremona come animatore missionario (1972-1974). In seguito viene mandato a studiare all’Urbaniana di Roma dove prende il diploma in Missiologia e in Comunicazioni sociali (1974-1978).

Agli inizi del 1979, p. Stefano ritorna in Indonesia. Dopo qualche mese di studio della lingua, lavora come Vice parroco a Siberut (1979-1981); in seguito viene mandato nell’episcopio di Padang per un servizio nel campo delle Comunicazioni Sociali (1982-1987).

Dopo un anno di riposo-aggiornamento, p. Stefano viene destinato a Gallico come rettore e animatore missionario (1988-1991). Dopo qualche mese passato all’OPAM come impiegato, p. Stefano lavora come animatore missionario a Zelarino (1991-1994), a Macomer (1994-1996), a S. Pietro in Vincoli (1996-2003).

Dopo un periodo passato a Parma nella Procura-CIACS (2003-2004), p. Stefano svolge il suo ministero a Tavernerio (2005-2016), a Taranto (2016-2019), a Parma (2019-2020).

A causa dell’aggravarsi della sua salute, ai primi di marzo p. Stefano viene ricoverato nell’ospedale di Parma. Qui, nel pomeriggio del 21 marzo 2020, p. Stefano sale in Paradiso per gioire della felicità eterna.

FR. STEFANO CORONESE

(1931 - 2020)

Fr. Stefano Coronese died at the Hospital of Parma, in the early afternoon of March 21st, 2020. Our xaverian confrere was born in the town of Massafra (Taranto – IT) on December 21st, 1931, and was now 88 years old.

In his early youth, Stefano joined the Boy Scouts and was imbued with the spirit of fraternity and universality, which led him to become a missionary (see testimony of MS April 2016). In the month of September 1952, young Stefano entered the xaverian house of Poggio San Marcello. At the end of his High School training in the town of Pedrengo (1952-1954), in September 1954, Stefano went to San Pietro in Vincoli for the year of Novitiate.

On September 12th, 1955, Stefano Coronese celebrated his First Religious Missionary Profession. Continuing with his studies, Stefano transferred to Desio for College (1955-1958); then to Piacenza for the final year of Philosophy and preparation for Theology (1958-1959); finally to Parma for his Theological Studies (1959-1963).

Fr. Stefano Coronese was ordained Priest in Parma, on October 28th,1962.

Having finished with his formal training, Fr. Stefano Coronese was assigned to the CSAM of Parma and named Director of the Review “Missionari Saveriani” (1963-1966). Assigned to the Xaverian House of Taranto, Fr. Coronese was named its Rector (1966-1968).

In the year 1968, Fr. Stefano Coronese was assigned for mission work in Indonesia. After a year spent for the study of local Language in the city of Padang, Indonesia, he worked as assistant Parish Priest, first in the city of Sikakap (1969-1970) and then in the city of Padang Baru (1970-1971).

After a year spent in Switzerland as Chaplain of Italian Emigrants (1971-1972), Fr. Stefano Coronese was assigned to the Xaverian Apostolic School of the city of Cremona as missionary educator (1972-1974). Then, he was sent for further Studies in the areas of Missiology and Social Communications to the Urbaniana University of Rome (1971-1978).

Early in 1979, Fr. Stefano Coronese returned to Indonesia. He spent the first few months renewing his knowledge of the Indonesian Language and ministered as Assistant Parish Priest in Siberut (1979-1981). Then, he was sent to the Bishop Residence in the city of Padang to minister in the field of Social Communications (1982-1987). 

After a year of rest in Italy and trying to recover his good health, Fr. Stefano was assigned to the xaverian house of Gallico as Rector of the house and mission educator (1988-1991). After few months spent as emplee of OPAM, Fr. Coronese was sent to the xaverian house of Zelarino to help in the area of mission education (1991-1994), at Macomer (1994-1996), at San Pietro in Vincoli (1996-2003).

After a period of time spent in Parma in the Mission Procure-CIACS (2003-2004), Fr. Stefano Coronese continued his ministry in the xaverian house of Tavernerio (2005-2016), Taranto (2016-2019), at Parma (2019-2020).

His state of health worsened rapidly and, at the beginning of March, Fr. Stefano Coronese was admitted to the Parma Hospital. Early in the afternoon of March 21st, 2020, Fr. Stefano Coronese left for Paradise to rejoice in eternal happiness.
