Il 9 gennaio 2013, intorno alle otto, in Casa Madre si è spento il P. Albino Orsi.
Aveva 89 anni compiuti, essendo nato a Albareto (Parma – Italia) il 21 settembre 1923.
Allievo del Seminario di Pontremoli fino alla terza Liceo, il 5 settembre 1945 ebbe l’assenso del suo Vescovo per poter lasciare la diocesi di Pontremoli e dare il suo nome alla Pia Società di S: Francesco Saverio: «Siamo lieti di poter attestare che il Seminarista Albino Orsi si è sempre comportato esemplarmente, dimostrando palesemente i segni positivi di vocazione ecclesiastica».
Anche il suo Rettore di Seminario lo presentò positivamente: «Il seminarista Orsi Albino mi aveva informato del suo desiderio di entrare in codesta Pia Società da parecchio tempo. La sua condotta in Seminario è sempre stata buona sotto ogni aspetto, è molto pio, studioso, di ingegno sufficiente; farà certamente una buona riuscita. A me rincresce che lasci questo seminario, perché perdo un buon alunno; tuttavia non solo non creo difficoltà alla realizzazione di questa vocazione, ma per essa faccio i migliori auguri con la certezza che il Signore in cambio me ne rimandi almeno due».
Entrò all'Istituto a S. Pietro in Vincoli 27 settembre 1945. Fu ammesso al noviziato e emise la Prima Professione il 5 novembre 1946. Frequentò quindi i quattro corsi di teologia: tre a Parma (46-49), il quarto a Piacenza (49-50); fu ordinato presbitero a Albareto il 25 marzo 1950. Accompagnato anche a questo traguardo finale della formazione di base dall’apprezzamento dei formatori: «Resistente alla fatica alla quale si sobbarca volentieri per il bene comune. Molto zelante nei suoi incontri e nella sua corrispondenza. Di carattere costante e talvolta un po’ impetuoso. Intraprendente e laborioso. Accetta riconoscente le osservazioni dei Superiori. In complesso è uno di quelli che più soddisfa».
Dopo l'ordinazione dal 1950 al 1960 fu impegnato in Italia come propagandista e addetto all’Opera Divina Provvidenza (questue varie) a Parma (50-51) e poi come propagandista a Roma (51-54). Era il tempo del Grande Alveare… «in poco tempo ho potuto fare una ventina di spettacoli e dovunque il film suscita entusiasmo per le Missioni e simpatia per i Missionari di Parma… i Superiori e le Superiore mi domandano se ne abbiamo altri del genere» (Lett. 19.2.1952). Dal 54al 60, infine, fu a Desio come Economo della comunità del Liceo.
Nel 1961 fu destinato all’Indonesia. Il 22 febbraio era a Padang alle prese con l’indonesiano. Il 1° giugno firmava un ampia relazione sul suo «primo giro propriamente missionario nel mondo delle Mentawai; un mondo proprio come l’avevo sognato, fantasticato quando incominciai a conoscere e ad amare le missioni». A settembre fu inviato come Vice-Parroco a Pekambaru (61-64); successivamente gli furono affidate le parrocchie di Selatpanjang (64-66) e di Bagansiapi - Api (66-68).
Gli anni trascorsi in Indonesia furono vissuti intensamente da P. Orsi nelle attività classiche dell’evangelizzazione e nella realizzazione di opere di promozione umana. Scriveva nel Natale 1963: «Il lavoro missionario, iniziato da pochissimi anni, si manifesta già promettente anche perché le autorità sono interessate all’istruzione e la salute della popolazione. In questo solo anno nel nostro Riau sono state aperte due nuove cliniche e una decina di scuole. Da qualche mese abbiamo dato inizio alla erezione della prima grande chiesa del Riau. Una costruzione che non sfiguri nei confronti delle moschee circostanti.
E tutto questo senza trascurare le altre attività: catechismo a13, per la precisione, classi; dodici volte la settimana fuori classe agli adulti; quattro Messe la domenica; prediche e pratiche devozionali varie…».
Richiamato in Italia per problemi di salute, dal 1968 al 1977 fu economo della Scuola apostolica di Alzano Nel 1978 tornò in Indonesia, ma per la salute dopo due anni dovette lasciare la missione.
Servì ancora l’Istituto, prestandosi per il ministero nelle comunità di Taranto (82-87) e poi di Pegli (90-99). Dal 99 era in cura a Parma.
La vita missionaria di P. Orsi fu spesa in gran parte nel servizio alla Congregazione.
Il Signore lo ricambi con la sua divina generosità.

Fr. Albino Orsi died in the Mother House on 9 January 2013. Born in Albareto (Parma, Italy) on 21 September 1923, he was 89 years old.
He studied at the seminary of Pontremoli until the third year of lyceum. On 5 September 1945, his bishop agreed to let him leave the diocese and join the Xaverians: «We are pleased to certify that the seminarian Albino Orsi has always behaved in an exemplary manner, showing clear signs of an ecclesiastical vocation ».
His seminary rector also gave a positive report: «Albino Orsi told me some time ago about his desire to join the Xaverians. His conduct in seminary has always been good in every aspect, he is very devout, he is a good student and possesses a sufficient degree of intelligence; he will undoubtedly succeed. I am sorry he is leaving our seminary because I am losing a good student; nevertheless, not only will I not place any obstacles in his path, I wish him all the best in the certainty that the Lord will send at least another two seminarians to replace him».
He joined the Institute at S. Pietro in Vincoli on 27 September 1945 and made his First Profession on 5 November 1946. He completed the four years of theology: three at Parma (1946-49) and the fourth at Piacenza (1949-50). He was ordained priest at Albareto on 25 March 1950. His formators thus described him: «He willingly undertakes difficult tasks on behalf of the common good and is persevering an carrying them out. His is very zealous in his meetings and in his correspondence. A steadfast, sometimes impetuous, character, resourceful and hardworking. He accepts the observations of his Superiors with gratitude. Overall, he is one of the most satisfying candidates ».
After ordination, in the period 1950-1960, he worked in the propaganda sector in Italy and with the Opera Divina Provvidenza (collection of offerings) in Parma (1950-51) . This was followed by three years in Rome (1951-54) in propaganda work. This was the period of the Grande Alveare… «in a short time I was able to organize about twenty showings and the film met with an enthusiastic reception everywhere, awakening interest among people for the missionaries of Parma … the superiors ask me if we have any other similar initiatives » (Letter, 19.2.1952). In the period 1954-60, he served as the treasurer of the lyceum community in Desio.
In 1961 he was assigned to Indonesia and arrived in Padang on 22 February where he studied the language. On 1 June he made a report on his «first missionary tour of the Mentawai islands; the world that I had been dreaming of since I began to know and love the missions». In September he was sent as assistant priest to Pekambaru (1961-64); later he was put in charge of the parishes of Selatpanjang (1964-66) and Bagansiapi - Api (1966-68).
Fr. Orsi lived intensely the years of his mission in Indonesia, serving in the classical areas of evangelization and human promotion activities. On the occasion of Christmas 1963, he wrote: «The missionary work we began some years ago is already producing fruit; the authorities are interested in the instruction and the health of the population. In this year alone, two new clinics and ten schools were opened in Riau. A few months ago we began work on the first big church of Riau and it has nothing to envy the surrounding mosques.
Nor have we neglected our other activities: catechism with 13 classes; adult classes twelve times a week; four Masses on Sunday; preaching and various devotional practices …».
He was called back to Italy on health grounds and, in the period 1968-1977 he served as treasurer at the minor seminary in Alzano. He returned to Indonesia in 1978 but poor health forced him to leave again just two years later.
He worked in the pastoral ministry at Taranto (1982-87) and Pegli (1990-99). In 1999 he was taken into nursing care in Parma.
Fr. Orsi spent his missionary life in the service of the Congregation. May he rest in peace.
