P. Flaviano Pisani

Villaverla (Vicenza), 26 novembre 1928
A Vicenza, verso le 18.20 del 24.9.2013, è morto P. Flaviano Pisani. Da tempo soffriva ed era in cura alternando periodi all’ospedale e in casa. Era prossimo agli 85 anni, essendo nato a Villaverla (Vicenza – Italia) il 26.11.1928.
Entrò tra i Saveriani a Vicenza il 28.9.1939. Dopo le tre medie passò a Grumone e nel 1945 fu ammesso al Noviziato. Che questi anni di “apostolino missionario” siano stati fruttuosi per P. Flaviano, lo scrive il suo Parroco che regolarmente alla fine delle vacanze estive informava i Superiori dell’Istituto della pietà e serietà del giovane: “In questo tempo ha sempre tenuto ottima condotta, vivendo solo per la Chiesa e per la sua così buona famiglia” (1.8.45).
Il 24.9.46, al compimento dell’anno canonico di Noviziato a S. Pietro in Vincoli emise la Prima Professione.
Fece quindi la 1 Liceo a Parma e le altre due classi nella appena aperta sede di Desio. Seguirono due anni di Prefettato a Vicenza. Concluse l’iter formativo con i quattro anni di Teologia a Piacenza. Veramente la classe di P. Flaviano era stata destinata al Nias (Indonesia), una missione che si sarebbe dovuta aprire nel '55. Per questo i sette studenti di terza, del 1954, non fecero le vacanze e, con le dovute autorizzazioni, dal luglio al dicembre 54 svolsero i programmi del quarto anno.
Furono ordinati Presbiteri a Piacenza il 3.10.1954. Ai primi di gennaio erano pronti per la nuova missione. Ma questa fu affidata ad altri.
P. Flaviano fu dirottato a Vicenza come insegnante. Ad ottobre fu assegnato alla Casa di Zelarino, con l’incarico di propagandista (55-57) e, dal 57 al 63, di economo locale. Un impegno, questo, tutt’altro che facile per il semplice fatto che la comunità era numerosa e contemporaneamente si dovevano portare avanti grossi lavori di ristrutturazione e ampliamento degli ambienti. P. Flaviano si confermò un instancabile lavoratore e un Presbitero sempre disponibile a celebrare il Sacramento della Riconciliazione e ad offrire il servizio della Direzione spirituale, particolarmente nella comunità parrocchiale di Zelarino.
Dal 64 al 67 lavorò in Gran Bretagna: Vicerettore a Glasgow e Rettore a Cardross e nelle due comunità incaricato della cura degli emigranti italiani.
Nel 1967 fu destinato alla Sierra Leone. Ebbe per alcuni mesi l’incarico di parroco a Yele. Poi di seguito Amministratore diocesano (68-72), Parroco a Kabala (72-75), Economo e Procuratore diocesano, e nuovamente parroco a Kabala (79-82).
Ridestinato alla Gran Bretagna servì la Regione come Economo Regionale (85-87) e animatore missionario (87-94).
Ritornò in Sierra Leone a Freetown-Kissy (94-98) dedicato al ministero e incaricato dell’attività sociale. Nel 1999, per motivi di salute, rientrò definitivamente in Italia. Visse a Udine (99-04) e a Vicenza (04-13), esemplarmente occupato nella manutenzione delle due case e sempre disponibile per il servizio pastorale nelle parrocchie e nelle comunità di suore.
Così lo ha presentato, nella Messa Esequiale a Villaverla (Vicenza), il Vescovo Giorgio Biguzzi con il quale collaborò per diversi anni a Makeni (Sierra Leone): “Lo ricordo in parrocchia a Kabala, puntuale nelle celebrazioni religiose e nella vita di preghiera, regolare nella catechesi e nella visita ai villaggi, attento agli ammalati e ai poveri. Era noto per la sua capacità di costruttore e di custode dei veicoli. Quando gli fu affidata l'amministrazione e la procura diocesana dimostrò in un campo ancor più vasto la sua competenza nella contabilità corretta, nella costruzione e manutenzione degli edifici diocesani e dei veicoli, nel procurare quanto occorreva per far funzionare la procura della diocesi. Allo stesso tempo continuava il servizio pastorale in alcuni villaggi.
Un uomo dal cuore compassionevole: a volte duro, ma sempre pronto ad aiutare. Un confratello di grande sensibilità nei rapporti personali. Un missionario classico nel senso più bello della parola".

Fr. Flavio Pisani died in Vicenza on 24 September 2013. He had been ill for some time, alternating periods at home and in hospital. Born in Villaverla (Vicenza – Italy), on 26 November 1928, he was almost 85 years old.
He joined the Xaverians in Vicenza on 28 September 1939. After three years of junior high school, he moved to Grumone and in 1945 he was admitted to the Novitiate. His parish priest sent regular reports to the Superiors of the Institute on Flavio’s behavior during vacations, highlighting his piety and serious demeanor: “During this period his behavior has been excellent; he lives only for the Church and his very good family” (1.8.45).
He made his First Profession on 24 September 1946 in S. Pietro in Vincoli. He then attended one year of Lyceum in Parma and another two in the newly-opened house in Desio. This was followed by two years as prefect in Vicenza. He completed the formation program with four years of theology study in Piacenza. The class of Fr. Flaviano had been assigned to Nias (Indonesia), a mission that was to be opened in April 1955. For this reason, the seven students of the third year of theology did not go on vacation in the year 1954, and were authorized to do the fourth year program from July until December. They were ordained to the priesthood on 3 October 1954 in Piacenza.
In early January they were ready for the new mission, but this was entrusted to others. Fr. Flaviano was sent to Vicenza to teach. In October he was assigned to the house of Zelarino, to work in propaganda (1955-57) and as local treasurer (1957-63). This was a far from easy task because the community was large and was carrying out a great amount of restructuring and extension work on the premises. Fr. Flaviano proved to be tireless worker and a priest who was always available to celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation and spiritual direction, especially in the parish community of Zelarino.
From 1964 until 1967 he worked in Great Britain as Vice-rector in Glasgow and Rector in Cardross. While he was in both communities he also acted as chaplain to the Italian immigrants.
In 1967 he was assigned to Sierra Leone. For some months he was parish priest in Yele. Thereafter, he was the diocesan Administrator (1968-72), parish priest in Kabala (1972-75), diocesan treasurer and procurator and, once again, parish priest in Kabala (1979-82).
He was reassigned to Great Britain, where he served as Regional treasurer (1985-87) and missionary animator (1987-94).
He returned to Sierra Leone, to Freetown-Kissy (1994-98), where he worked in the ministry and was in charge of social activity. In 1999, his health forced him to return definitively to Italy. He lived in Udine (1999-2004) and Vicenza (2004-2013), where he was kept busy in the maintenance of the two houses; he was always available for pastoral service in the parishes and communities of nuns.
During the Requiem Mass in Villaverla (Vicenza), Bishop Giorgio Biguzzi, with whom he collaborated for several years in Makeni (Sierra Leone), said of him: “I remember him in the parish in Kabala, faithful to the religious celebrations and prayer, the catechesis and visits to the villages, attentive to the sick and the poor. He was known for his ability as a builder and mechanic. When he was entrusted with the administration and the diocesan Procura, he showed in this wider field his ability to keep the accounts in order, supervise construction work, maintain the diocesan buildings and the vehicles, finding whatever was needed to make the diocesan Procura function properly. At the same time he continued his pastoral service in some villages.
He was a man with a compassionate heart: sometimes harsh, but always ready to help. A confrere who was very sensitive in his personal relationships. A classical missionary in the truest sense of the word. "
