Nacque a Latronico (PZ - Diocesi di Policastro) il 15.I.1915 da Carmine e Giordano Emanuela ed entrò tra i Saveriani nel Gennaio 1952.
Emessa la Professione Religiosa come Fratello Coadiutore nella Famiglia Saveriana a S. Pietro in Vincoli il 2.VII.1934, fu chiamato alla Casa Madre di Parma dove, sotto la guida di Fr. Gemma, apprese l'arte del calzolaio che continuò ad esercitare per quindici anni. È difficile anche solo tentare di immaginare quante scarpe rotte abbia aggiustate in un periodo così lungo!
Finita la guerra, gli fu chiesto di portarsi nella Casa di Tortoli (1949), prima Sede provvisoria del nostro Istituto in Sardegna. Da Tortolì seguì la Comunità a Macomer e vi rimase fino alla fine del 1952. In entrambe queste Case egli fece il cuoco.
Nel 1953, anche perché il clima della Sardegna non gli era confacente, fu inviato alla nuova Sede di Salerno, allora in Via Tasso. Anche là ebbe l'incarico di cuoco e di portinaio: compiti che continuò ad avere anche quando si trasferì nell'attuale Sede di Via Petrosino (28.XI.1961).
Solo nel 1970 egli fu sollevato da quell'incarico e continuò a servire la Casa come portinaio e incaricato della distribuzione e raccolta dei salvadanai. L'essere libero dalla cucina gli diede più tempo disponibile che egli dedicò all'insegnamento del catechismo ai bambini, dapprima in Casa nostra, quando la nostra Cappella fungeva anche da Chiesa Parrocchiale, poi in Parrocchia. Fu un compito a cui si dedicò con profonda passione e con tanto amore fino alla morte.
Come si sa, egli era scherzosamente chiamato "padre guardiano" o "padre abate" per la sua sagoma caratteristica, il modo molto appropriato e gentile con cui sapeva presentarsi, e per la veneranda barba che gli incorniciava il volto. Tra le caratteristiche della sua attività si devono ricordare: la dedizione gioiosa e serena ai vari compiti; la sua capacità di fare del bene e di dire una parola buona a quanti incontrava, sia in Casa che fuori (ed in ciò gli era di grande aiuto il dialetto locale); il suo spirito di preghiera; l'amore grande all'Istituto che egli sentì sempre come la sua vera famiglia.
La morte sopravvenne dopo un ennesimo attacco cardiaco sofferto proprio mentre stava nella Chiesa Parrocchiale ad ascoltare un seconda Messa, com'era solito fare ogni volta che ne aveva il tempo. Egli andò incontro al Signore verso le 10,30 del 29 gennaio 1984.

Brother Vincenzo Raimondi died at Salerno on Jan. 29 1984, of cardiac arrest. He was 69 years old, born on Jan. 15 1915 at Latronico (Prov. of Potenza, Diocese of Policastro).
He entered the Xaverian congregation in Jan. 1932 and made his Religious profession as a brother at S. Pietro in Vincoli on July 2 1934. He was then sent to the Mother House in Parma, where under the guidance of Brother Gemma, he learned the cobbler’s trade, which he continued to practice for 15 years. It would be difficult the thought of imagining how many pairs of shoes he mended in such a long period of time.
At the end of World War II, he was asked to go to Tortolì in 1949, the first temporary house of the Xaverians in Sardinia. From Tortolì he followed the community to Macomer (1950) and resided there until the end of 1952. In both these houses, he served as the community cook. In 1953, because the climate of Sardinia was not conducive for him, he was invited to go to the new opening in Salerno, then in Via Tasso. There he worked as cook and doorkeeper: functions which he carried out even when the community transferred to the house in Via Petrosino (Nov. 28 1961).
In 1970, Brother Vincenzo was relieved of the job as cook, and continued to work as doorkeeper of the community and as the person in charge of the distribution and collection of money-banks, one of the fund-raising activities. Being free from the kitchen, he had more free time which he dedicated to the teaching of catechism to the children, at first in the community, when its Chapel served also as the parish church, then afterwards in the Parish. It was a job to which he dedicated himself with a deep passion and with great love.
As everyone knows, he was jokingly called by the name of “The Guardian Priest” or “The Monk Priest” due to his characteristic profile, his gentle and appropriate manner with which he introduced himself, and above all for his venerable beard which framed his well-known face.
Among the characteristics of his activities, we cannot help but mention: his joyful and serene dedication to the many varied jobs he was called to perform; his capacity of doing things and of always having the right word for all those whom he met, whether in the house or outside it (using the local dialect, which was of great help to him in this); his spirit of prayer; his great love for the Xaverian congregation which he always felt to be his true family.
His death came about after a heart attack which he suffered while he was in the parish church attending his second mass, as was his usual practice whenever he had the time. He went to meet his Lord, on Jan. 29 1984 at about 10:30 in the morning.
His remains rest in the cemetery of his village, alongside those of his dear ones. May he rest in peace.
