Amedeo Cencini, intervening at the Convention on Xaverian spirituality, pointed out that spirituality goes far beyond personal and devotional piety. It concerns the self directly and its identity: «Spirituality cannot be reduced to something important and useful, to a series of ideals, virtues or spiritual calls, which are in any case outside the personality. Instead it expresses the personality, it indicates its ideal point of arrival, and it even reveals the new name or mystery, what it is called to become. It is its truest self, not some clothing, however decorously attractive and tailor-made it may be… It is this spirituality that is the reference point for choices, the more or less unacknowledged criterion for decisions»...
