Comunicato 01
Il primo giorno del XVII Capitolo Generale dei Missionari Saveriani è iniziato con un ritiro guidato da Don Gianni Cesena, parroco di Desio, ex-segretario del Card. Carlo Maria Martini, direttore di Missio per l'Italia, amico della nostra comunità saveriana. Don Gianni ha visitato molte delle nostre missioni nel corso degli anni.
La sua riflessione si è concentrata sul fatto che Dio ha un progetto per il suo popolo. Questo si basa sulla chiamata a servire il popolo, non “quello che possiamo fare” per il popolo. Dio continua a chiamare ognuno di noi.
Riferendosi alla storia della chiamata di Samuele, ha invitato l'assemblea a vedere alcune situazioni molto simili. Come al momento della chiamata di Samuele, c'è una fatica della fede tra molti che si dicono credenti. C'è una superficialità in relazione alla Parola di Dio. Il lavoro è diventato il nuovo idolo.
Dobbiamo ravvivare la passione che ci aiuterà a ripensare la vita del Vangelo, non come è stato, ma come è oggi vivo, e dare speranza e grazia al suo popolo. Usando citazioni dell’Evangelii Gaudium, dobbiamo trovare una nuova visione per il nostro ministero. Gli apostoli non impararono in una classe, ma mentre pescavano o stavano con Gesù; Maria attraverso il lavoro quotidiano in casa; san Paolo incontrò il Signore mentre perseguitava i cristiani. Dobbiamo accettare ciò che è nuovo, non perché è nuovo, ma perché ci porta più in profondità nella pratica del Vangelo e nell'incontro con il Signore, ricordandoci dell'alleanza che ha con noi, come l’ha avuta con Samuele.
La sfida per noi e per la gente che oggi serviamo è di non essere frammentati dalle pressioni e dalle sollecitazioni della vita e del lavoro, spesso sfuggendo nel divertimento che diventa una deviazione dalla vita. Dobbiamo invece offrire un “divertimento” che crea spazio per la riflessione e il rinnovamento che aiuta il nostro popolo a vivere la chiamata ad essere membro di questa comunità di fede.
Dopo un periodo di riflessione personale, i delegati del capitolo hanno concluso la mattinata con l'Eucaristia, presieduta dal p. Mario Carmelo Mula, vicario generale.
Nel pomeriggio, alle 15:00, è iniziato ufficialmente il XVII Capitolo Generale dei missionari saveriani. Vi partecipano 38 delegati e 4 membri della Direzione Generale uscente.
Dopo il canto del “Veni Creator Spiritus” e della preghiera di impegno, il vicario generale p. Mario Carmelo Mula dichiara aperto il XVII Capitolo Generale, dando inizio agli “atti preliminari”, come stabilito dal “direttorio del capitolo generale” (n. 35), con l’appello dei capitolari, giustificando l’assenza del p. Javier Mexicano Ferrer per ragioni di salute, sostituito dal p. Fabien Kalehezo T’chiribuka. Sono presenti anche il Segretario Generale p. Marco Milia, e due attuari, p. Paolo Tovo e Pietro Rossini, studente di teologia a Parma.
Vengono poi letti i messaggi giunti dal Segretario di Stato Card. Pietro Parolin, a nome di Papa Francesco, dal Prefetto della Congregazione per l’Evangelizzazione dei Popoli, Card. Ferdinando Filoni, dal Segretario della Congregazione per gli Istituti di Vita Consacrata, Mons. José Rodrígues Carballo, O.F.M., dalle missionarie di Maria – saveriane, dalle suore Giuseppine in Cina, dal vescovo di Makeni (Sierra Leone) Mons. Natale Paganelli, sx, e dal vescovo di Alto Solimões (Brasile) Mons. Adolfo Zon Pereira, sx.
Si procede, quindi, con la lettura della Lettera di indizione del XVII Capitolo Generale del 25 gennaio, nella quale è stato formulato il tema orientatore: “Ripartendo … dalla ‘sapiente architettura’ del Fondatore: quale risposta, come saveriani, alla Missione ad gentes? Quale futuro per il suo ‘audace progetto’?”. In seguito, viene letta la lettera di convocazione del 1 maggio, che prevede l’ordine del giorno provvisorio del Capitolo.
Vengono poi eletti due scrutatori p. Marco Marangone e p. Ulisse Zanoletti; il segretario p. Juan Antonio Flores Osuna e il vice segretario p. Faustino Turco; gli addetti stampa p. Stefano Raschietti e p. Rocco Puopolo; i tre moderatori p. Carlos Collantes Diez, p. Eduardo Garcia Mandillo, p. Fabien Kalehezo T’chiribuka.
Le sedute capitolari si terranno dal lunedì a sabato, massimo fino al 20 agosto, con quattro incontri giornalieri, l’Eucarestia al mattino e i vespri alla sera.

The first day of the XVII General Chapter of the Xaverian Missionaries began with a retreat led by Don Gianni Cesena, parish priest of Desio, former secretary of Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini, director of Missio for Italy, a friend of our Xaverian community. Don Gianni has visited many of our missions over the years.
His reflection focused on the fact that God has a plan for his people. This is based on the call to serve the people, not "what we can do" for the people. God continues to call each of us.
Referring to the story of Samuel's call, he invited the assembly to see some very similar situations. As at the time of Samuel's call, there is a fatigue of faith among many who are called believers. There is a superficiality in relation to the Word of God. Work has become the new idol.
We must revive the passion that will help us rethink the life of the Gospel, not how it was, but how it is alive today, and give hope and grace to its people. Using quotations from the Evangelical Gaudium, we must find a new vision for our ministry. The apostles did not learn in a class, but as they fished or were with Jesus; Mary through her daily work at home; St. Paul met the Lord on his way to persecute Christians. We must accept what is new, not because it is new, but because it brings us deeper into the practice of the Gospel and an encounter with the Lord, reminding us of the covanent he has with us, as he had with Samuel.
The challenge for us and for the people we serve today is not to be fragmented by the pressures and strains of life and work, often escaping into the fun that becomes a deversion from life. We must instead offer a "diversion" that creates space for reflection and renewal that helps our people live the call to be a member of this community of faith.
After a period of personal reflection, the delegates of the chapter concluded the morning with the Eucharist, presided over by Fr. Mario Carmelo Mula, Vicar General.
In the afternoon, at 3:00pm, the XVII General Chapter of the Xaverian Missionaries officially began. There are 38 delegates and 4 members of the Outgoing General Direction.
After the sing of "Veni Creator Spiritus" and the prayer of commitment, the Vicar General Fr. Mario Carmelo Mula declared the chapter open and began the "preliminary acts", as established by the "directory of the general chapter" (No. 35), with the commitment of the capitulars, justifying the absence of Fr. Javier Mexicano Ferrer for health reasons, replaced by Fr. Fabien Kalehezo T'chiribuka. There is also the Secretary General Fr. Marco Milia, and two Actuaries, Fr. Paolo Tovo and Pietro Rossini, a student of theology in Parma.
Then we read the messages of Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, on behalf of Pope Francis, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, Cardinal Ferdinando Filoni, the Secretary of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life, Mgr. José Rodríguez Carballo, OFM, Missionaries of Mary, Sisters of Sr. Joseph in China, Bishop of Makeni (Sierra Leone), Bishop Natalio Paganelli, and Bishop of Alto Solimões (Brazil), Bishop Adolfo Zon Pereira.
He then proceeded with reading of the letter of convocation of the 17th General Chapter in January 25, in which it was formulated the theme: "A new beginning…based on the “wise building of the Founder: what response ca we give, as Xaverian to the Mission Ad Gentes? What future is there for his audacious project? " Last, Fr. Mula read the letter of convocation of May 1, which provides the provisional agenda for the Chapter.
Are then elected; two tellers: Frs. MarkMarangone and Ulisse Zanoletti. The Secretary of the Chapter, Fr. Juan Antonio Flores Osuna and Deputy Secretary Fr. Faustino Turco; Communication officers: Fr. Stefano Raschietti and Fr. Rocco Puopolo; the three moderators Fr Carlos Collantes Diez, Fr. Eduardo Garcia Mandillo,and Fr. Fabien Kalehezo T ' chiribuka.
The meetings of the chapter will be held from Monday to Saturday, maximum ending on August 20th, with four sessions per day, the Eucharist and morning prayers in the morning and the evening Vespers.
