Missionario umile con il lavoro ed eroico con la sofferenza. Di anni 74. Sepolto al Paese d'origine
Il giorno dopo la sua morte, avvenuta nella Casa Madre di Parma, nel pomeriggio del 18.I.1982, sulla Gazzetta di Parma apparve in quinta pagina questo articolo:
"Si è spento a 74 anni il Saveriano Luigi Lini".
Fu per lungo tempo sagrista nella Chiesa Parrocchiale del Sacro Cuore. Silenziosamente cose com'era Vissuto, si è spento ieri pomeriggio Luigi Lini, Missionario Saveriano Coadiutore. Oltre due anni fa era stato colpito da paralisi progressiva e si trovava immobile in un letto, amorevolmente assistito dal fratello P. Lorenzo, anch'egli Saveriano. Il merito principale di Fr. Luigi fu quello di essere stato per 45 anni un pre-zioso ausiliare della Famiglia Saveriana, operando nei settori più umili e sconosciuti.
Nato in S. Fiore di Spineda (CR) in una famiglia di 11 figli, il 14.IV.1907, aveva emesso i Voti Religiosi nel settembre 1936. Iniziò un cammino di operosità e semplicità, lavorando come cuoco, come ortolano, come portiere, ma specialmente come sagrista per ben 25 anni, 12 dei quali a Parma, presso la Parrocchia del Sacro Cuore, affidata per lungo tempo alla cura pastorale dei Missionari Saveriani. Molti fedeli lo ricorderanno disinvol-to e discreto, intento a spazzare, a ornare l'altare di fiori, ad accendere i lumi o a preparare i sacri paramenti. Così egli fece anche a Grano, in Svizzera, accanto al fratello P. Lorenzo, per altri 13 anni.
La sua operosità fu davvero notevole. Si ricorda a questo proposito un curioso episodio. Durante l’anno di Noviziato (era entrato in Congregazione a 28 anni ed era abituato al lavoro manuale fin dalle ore del mattino), un giorno i P. Maestro lo trovò in pianto. Avendogli chiesto quale fosse il motivo di tanto dolore, egli rispose: "Qui si prega e si studia, ma si lavora poco”.
I funerali avranno luogo domani, mercoledì, alle ore 10 presso l'Istituto Missioni Estere."

Brother Luigi Lini died at the Mother House in Parma on Jan. 18 1982, of repeated paralysis attacks. He was 74 years old, born on April 24 1907 at S. Fiore di Spineda (Cremona).
The day after his death, the “Gazzetta di Parma” newspaper reported Brother Lini’s life in the following article which appeared in fifth page.
“Xaverian Luigi Lini dies at age 74. He was for the longest time sacristan of the Church of Sacred Heart in Parma. Silently as ever, just as the way he lived his life, Xaverian brother Luigi Lini passed away in the afternoon of yesterday, Monday Jan. 18 1982. For over two years, he faced a progressive paralysis, and was bed-ridden, lovingly assisted by his confreres, especially his brother Fr. Lorenzo Lini, himself a Xaverian.
The main credit of Brother Lini is that he provided a precious service for 45 years to the Xaverian family, working in sectors most humble and unknown.
He was born at S. Fiore di Spineda (Cremona) on April 14 1907, from a family of 11 children. He professed religious Vows on Sept. 12 1936 at S. Pietro in Vincoli. From then onward, Brother Lini walked a path of laboriousness and simplicity of life, working as cook, as gardener, as welcoming doorkeeper, and especially as sacristan for over 25 years. In fact he served for 12 years in this capacity here in Parma at the Sacred Heart Parish, given to the Xaverian missionaries for its pastoral care. Many faithful will recall his discreet way in cleaning the church, taking care of altar flowers, lighting the candles or preparing the various garments and vessels.
He did that also at Grono, in Switzerland, close to his brother Fr. Lorenzo, for another 13 years. His industriousness was notable indeed.
Regarding this aspect of Br. Lini’s life, we would like to recount a curious episode. During the year of Novitiate – as Br. Lini joined the Novitiate later on in life when he was 28 years old, and was very much used to working and getting up early in the morning – the Master of Novices found him crying. Asked the reason why he was crying, Br. Lini answered: ‘Here we pray and study a lot, but we work little!’
