P. Alessandro Chiarel

Nato a Revine-Lago (Prov. Treviso, Dioc. Vittorio Veneto) il 28.XI.1901, entrò nel Seminario Diocesano di Ceneda e vi compì gli studi fino al primo Corso Liceale.
Il 6.IX.1920 entrava nell'Istituto Missioni Estere di Parma, accoltovi dal Fondatore Mons. Conforti. Pochi giorni dopo, il 16 settembre, entrava nel primo Noviziato Saveriano regolare, assieme ad altri venti Confratelli.
Durante quel prezioso anno egli ebbe l'accortezza di scrivere per esteso in modo stenografico tutte le conferenze-istruzioni che il Fondatore veniva dettando al primo gruppo di Novizi Saveriani: quelle pagine, arricchite dai fogli autografi del Fondatore, sono la fonte particolare alla quale i Saveriani ricorreranno in seguito per ascoltare quell'insegnamento che fu chiamato "La Parola del Padre".
Professo il 17.IX.1921, completò a Parma gli Studi Teologici, frequentando le scuole del Seminario Diocesano, come i Saveriani usavano fare in quegli anni.
Fu ordinato Sacerdote il 28.II.1926 nella Cappella dell'Istituto per le mani di Mons. Conforti, assieme ai Confratelli PP. Emaldi, Munaretti e V. Capra.
Un mese dopo l'Ordinazione Sacerdotale, a 25 anni partiva per la Cina il 25.III. 1926, con gli stessi Confratelli compagni di ordinazione, destinato al Vicariato Apostolico di Cheng-chow, nell'Honan Occidentale.
Rimase Missionario in Cina per 24 anni, fino al 23.VIII.1950 quando morì per malattia a Hsuchang.
Nella "Lettera Rosa" del 24.VIII.1950, l'allora Superiore Generale P. Giovanni Gazza, così informava i Confratelli Saveriani:
".... Vi do la dolorosa notizia, ricevuta in questo momento, della morte del nostro carissimo Confratello P. Alessandro Chiarel; P. Castelli così ha telegrafato da Shanghai in data di oggi: "Père Chiarel mort hier maladie".
L'ultima lettera ricevuta dalla Cina, del P. Di Martino, Sostituto Regionale, è del 17 luglio e non fa alcun accenno; attendiamo ulteriori notizie per lettera..."

Fr. Alessandro Chiarel died at Hsuchang (China) on Aug. 23 1950, because of sickness. He was 48 years old, born on Nov. 28 1901 at Revine-Lago (Treviso, Diocese of Vittorio Veneto).
After studies at the Diocesan Seminary of Ceneda, he entered the Xaverians at Parma, on Sept. 6 1920, welcomed by our Founder. Ten days later, he began the first Regular Novitiate of the Xaverians, together with other twenty confreres. During that precious year, he was able to write through stenography all the conferences and instructions that our Founder gave to the first group of Xaverian Novices. Those pages, together with the autographed notes of our Founder, constitute the basis for teachings of our founder that Xaverians will later call “The Father’s Word.”
He made his First vows on Sept. 17 1921, and at the completion of his theology studies at the Diocesan Seminary (as the Xaverians used to do in those years), he was ordained a priest by Bishop Conforti in the Chapel of the Mother House on Feb. 28 1926, together with Frs. Emaldi, Munaretti and V. Capra.
After a month of their ordination, he left for China on Mar. 25 1926 together with his ordination classmates, assigned to the Apostolic Vicariate of Cheng-chow, in Western Honan. He worked there for 24 years, until the day of his death at Hsuchang.
In the “Pink Letter” of Aug. 24 1950, Fr. Giovanni Gazza, Superior General, communicated in the following words to the Xaverians the death of Fr. Chiarel: “…I give you the sorrowful news that we received today, of the death of our most dear confrere Fr. Alessandro Chiarel. Fr. Castelli has telegraphed us from Shanghai in these words: ‘Père Chiarel mort hier maladie.’ The last letter that we received from China was from Fr. Di Martino, Vice-Regional, on July 17, and he did not mention anything about his illness. We await further news…”
