Carissimi Confratelli,
Buona Domenica a tutti.
Lo scorso 28 settembre 2015 incaricavo p. Guglielmo Camera di esplorare la possibilità di iniziare il processo di canonizzazione di p. L. Carrara, Fr. V. Faccin e p. G. Didonè, martirizzati in Congo nel 1964 assieme all’Abbé A. Joubert. P. Camera ha iniziato immediatamente la sua ricerca per fornire la documentazione previa alla Congregazione delle cause dei Santi per perizia circa un eventuale processo super martyrio. Due periti lavorarono sul testo loro consegnato a partire dal 9 gennaio 2016 e consegnarono il loro parere previo il 2 febbraio 2016. Il 16 febbraio Mons. Marcello Bartolucci, Segretario della Congregazione per le cause dei Santi, affidava al Postulatore il Parere previo, che termina con queste parole: “Ritengo che dal dossier presentato emergano elementi sufficienti e adeguati, sia quantitativamente che qualitativamente, per procedere ad ulteriora in ordine alla prova del martirio subito da P. Luigi Carrara, P. Giovanni Didonè, Fr. Vittorio Faccin e l’Abbè Athanase Joubert. Il mio parere è pertanto positivo”.
Questo è un momento di particolare grazia per la nostra Famiglia e un dono straordinario che il Signore mette nel cammino della nostra Famiglia. All’inizio del Giubileo straordinario della Misericordia ringraziamo il Signore perché indica a noi, tramite l’esempio dei nostri quattro martiri del Congo, la strada da percorrere: Misericordiosi come il Padre, fino al dono della propria vita.
Con il parere favorevole del Consiglio, in data 19 febbraio 2016 ho affidato al Postulatore p. Camera di seguire questa causa. Ora chiedo a tutti i confratelli di sentire come proprio lo stesso impegno del Postulatore: conoscere i nostri martiri, farli conoscere, chiedere la loro intercessione e benedizione, imitarli nella fede e nella indiscussa e totale consacrazione di sé stessi al Vangelo. Sono i missionari secondo il cuore di S. Guido Maria Conforti e di fronte al loro esempio anche noi siamo colti da meraviglia: O novelli nunzi del Vangelo quanto vi ammiriamo! (Antologia Confortiana, Consacrazione religiosa 9).
I martiri ci parlano, i martiri ci interrogano, i martiri ci donano speranza. Con loro e con i martiri di ogni epoca, con i perseguitati e i martiri della nostra epoca, con le tre Sorelle Saveriane martiri in Burundi, riprendiamo generosamente e con coraggio il nostro cammino come missionari, saveriani, consacrati.
Credo davvero che in questo caso sia doveroso chiudere questa lettera con un vicendevole: Felicitazioni!

TO ALL THE CONFRERES
Dear Brothers,
On 28 September 2015, I entrusted Fr. Guglielmo Camera with the task of exploring the possibility of initiating the process of canonization of Fr. L. Carrara, Br. V. Faccin and Fr. G. Didonè, who were martyred in the Congo in 1964 along with Abbé A. Joubert. Fr. Camera immediately began his research to provide the Congregation for the Causes of Saints with the necessary documentation for an assessment of the possibility of setting in motion a process super martyrio. On 9 January 2106, two consultants began an examination of the text and delivered their opinion on 2 February 2016. On 16 February, the Secretary of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, Archbishop Marcello Bartolucci, conveyed to the Postulator the opinion, which ends with these words: “I believe that the presented dossier contains sufficient and suitable elements, both in quantity and in quality, to proceed ad ulteriora in the investigation into the martyrdom of Fr. Luigi Carrara, Fr. Giovanni Didonè, Br. Vittorio Faccin and Abbé Athanase Joubert. My opinion is therefore positive”.
This is a moment of special grace and an extraordinary gift from the Lord to our Family. At the beginning of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, we thank the Lord because, through our four martyrs in the Congo, he is showing us the path we too must travel: Merciful like the Father even until the offering of our life.
On 19 February 2016, with the consent of the General Council, I entrusted the Postulator, Fr. Camera, with the task of following this Cause. Now I ask all the confreres to embrace the task of the Postulator as their own: to get to know our martyrs, make them known to others, ask for their intercession and imitate them in faith and in the undisputed and total consecration of self to the Gospel. They are missionaries according to the heart of St. Guido Maria Conforti and their example fills us too with wonder: Oh, new messengers of the Gospel, how we admire you! (Conforti Anthology, Religious consecration, 9).
The martyrs speak to us, they challenge us and they give us hope. With them, and with all the martyrs of every age, with the persecuted and the martyrs of our own times, with the three Xaverian Sisters martyred in Burundi, we resume our journey with generosity and courage as missionaries, Xaverians and consecrated men.
I truly believe that this letter must end with a mutual and heart-felt: Congratulations!
